Can't wait to see where it takes me in 1 year!
Stay tuned for my updates)

6 months of making an impact! 🌍✨

I am so thrilled to share that I’ve reached a wonderful milestone: 6 months of volunteering with the ENGin Program! 💙💛

Over the past half year, I’ve had the privilege of helping Ukrainian students polish their English speaking skills and connect with the world. Honestly, watching my students grow in confidence with every single conversation has been the most rewarding part of this journey. Their dedication and resilience inspire me every week!

A huge thank you to the @enginprogram team for building such a meaningful platform, and to my amazing students for always bringing their best energy. Cheers to many more months of learning and making a difference together! 🇺🇦🌱

How ENGin Changed My Life📚🇬🇧

Six months ago, I joined ENGin to practise my English. I didn’t know it would change so much more than that...

Through the programme, I was matched with my mentor, Greg Keaney and our weekly conversations have become one of the most meaningful parts of my professional journey.

Greg is a published author, bushwalker and international education leader with decades of experience in English language teaching. He holds a PhD in International Education and a Master’s in Applied Linguistics, and has led major education projects across Asia.

But what means the most to me is everything I’ve learned from him. How to think bigger, communicate with confidence, challenge myself and keep growing.

Over these six months, our conversations have helped me develop not only as an English teacher, but also as a speaker and as a person. Greg has encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone, take on new challenges and believe more in what I’m capable of.

And that’s what ENGin has given me: not just an opportunity to practise English, but a genuine connection with someone who inspires me to grow.

I’m incredibly grateful to ENGin for bringing us together, and especially to Greg Keaney for generously sharing his time, experience and support with me every week. His encouragement and belief in me have meant more than I can put into words ❤️

Sometimes, you join a programme to learn a language and end up finding a mentor who changes the way you see yourself.

Maybe this is your sign to start💻🌎

🌍 My ENGin Programme Experience @enginprogram

I am truly grateful for the opportunity to take part in the ENGin Programme! 💙💛

This experience has been about much more than just improving my English. One of the most valuable parts of the programme has been the opportunity to connect with people from another culture, learn about their traditions, lifestyle and way of thinking, and share my own Ukrainian culture with them. 🇺🇦🌎

Thank you to everyone who makes this programme possible and to my conversation partner, Emediong, for the interesting conversations, support and inspiration! ❤️ @hermiejay

ENGin is a wonderful opportunity to learn, communicate, discover new cultures and grow together. ✨

Part 1 Ukraine Kyiv pavilion

I had a lot of fun at this pavilion, performances were AMAZING! and they said each night is different so I thought that was pretty cool, there were a few dance groups and 2 sisters that sang 2 songs along with an accordion player, the sisters release their own music but I’m not sure if the ones they sang were their own

Didn’t need accessibility or much help so not sure how that is but I’m sure it would’ve been great!

Today on What Is It Like?, we sit down with Katerina Manoff — founder and CEO of ENGin, a nonprofit that has connected over 50,000 Ukrainian youth and global volunteers for English conversation and cultural exchange. In this way, Katerina shares the story behind launching ENGin in the midst of a global pandemic and a geopolitical crisis.
We talk about the power of language in shaping identity, the impact of war on education, and the deeply human stories that arise when strangers become friends across borders. Katerina reflects on the role of the Ukrainian language in reclaiming sovereignty, and her hopes for a peaceful future. Furthermore, Katerina offers practical advice to upcoming social entreprenuers about their potential journey of creation.
This episode is a testament to what’s possible when you match passion with purpose — and a moving reminder that sometimes, all it takes to change a life is a conversation.

A short visit from my third English conversation buddy from Ukraine! A whirlwind tour of the NYC area, from dim sum to bagels and lox, from Grand Central to the 93rd floor above. Great time!
