https://eniolakeshinro.com/african-voice-actors-and-accents-why-authenticity-should-not-limit-your-range/

Every now and again, this conversation comes up between African voice actors.
We often talk about owning our accents, preserving our languages and protecting our African voices from being flattened into a generic “international” sound because someone decided it’s easier to understand.
All of that matters, but somewhere along the way, I think we may have turned authenticity into a limitation when it comes to accent range.

For instance, if you are an African voice actor and, for the purpose of work, you develop a convincing American accent, are you less African? Or another African accent different from your native one? Are you no longer authentic?

Does accent range expand an African voice actor’s opportunities, or can it complicate how we’re perceived?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Took my superstar content creator nieces to Bing Chun & we filmed this chaotic vlog!🤣

Rate BB’s video editing skills, she edited this video! 1000/10 if you ask me 👏🏾❤️

We also had their cone ice cream, it tasted good but we didn’t get any clips because it melted really quickly.

We’ll definitely go again, but no boba tea for us 🤣😭
