So, what the hell just happened?! Mentor of the Year? Really @aidafreediving ? This is crrrraaazzzzyyyy!!!
.
Whoever voted for me, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. I don’t think you realize how much this means.
.
Coaching means the world to me. And that line « Guidance & impact beyond results » made me tear up, because this is truly what I strive for.
Sure, watching you achieve the PBs and National or World Records you dreamed of is great. But my secret goal, the one I don’t tell you about when you sign up with me, is to have an impact running deeper than numbers. I want you to get out of our coaching a more confident, assured, peaceful version of yourself. The kind of inner change that trickles down on other areas of your life too.
.
I usually tell my clients at the start to define some goals for themselves. Goals for the season but also BIIIG goals. The long-term ones that sound scary and crazy and more like unattainable dreams. The ones you feel stupid saying out loud.
.
Well, I set goals for myself too. And here’s my confession: when I started dedicating myself entirely to coaching 4 years ago, I wrote my « big dream » in a notebook somewhere. It read along the lines of « I want to be recognized as one of the best freediving coaches in the world one day. When any athlete asks around « who’s the best freediving coach you’d recommend? », I want my name to pop up. ».
It sounded absolutely ridiculous at the time of writing it, something that would most likely never happen.
But somehow, this post, these votes, suddenly make it seem like a step in that direction. So I’m truly stunned and beyond grateful.
.
A thought and hug to ALL my clients who are so special to me, make my job a dream, and make me a better coach week in week out 🫶

Thank You. by @enkicoaching

Here’s what you need to know…
⏰ I’m closer to 40 than to 50, although not for much longer…
🇫🇷 I’m French - sorry about that 😂 - but I hate cheese, no longer drink wine and no longer smoke. So I’m basically waiting for them to revoke my passport any day now…
🧠 For many years my job consisted of dissecting brains of rat embryos, growing their little neurons in dishes, then dumping various chemicals on them to see if we could find something that would cure that bitch of Alzheimer’s disease.
🧜‍♀️ Then my life did a 180 and now I’ve been a freediving coach, instructor, athlete and safety diver for 13 years full-time.
✅ I can’t change the wheel of my car but can duckdive like a boss. I’m afraid of heights, but once dove down to 70m on a single breath. I can’t sing a single song in tune but can get your freediving to the next level with my eyes closed!
🍫 My sources of happiness in life: my friends, my family, the sea, sleeping, and food, definitely food!
❤️ I’m passionate about helping people get to the next level, become the best version of themselves and reach their dreams.
😭 I’m hyper-sensitive and empathetic, so yes you’ll see me cry when I’m sad. Cry when I’m happy. Cry when I’m angry. Cry when I’m tired. Basically I cry way too much for a normal human being.
🖕I tend to be no-filter. I sometimes speak too fast. I swear a lot, and enjoy it. I have a dark and sarcastic sense of humour. For all of this: it’s take it or leave it, no compromise, sorrynotsorry!
.
If that’s your vibe: welcome, can’t wait to get to know you!
Let’s talk all things freediving and mindset, and have a good laugh in the process! What do you say? 😁

Learning when to lie… 😜
.
Sometimes, when I can tell that the only thing limiting you is your mind, your lack of confidence, your own limiting beliefs that you can’t do it…. but that I know for a fact you can get there… then I sometimes choose to tell little white lies 😜
.
Telling you there’s 30s left when it’s more like 45 like I did here with Nadia on her 4mins static for her instructor course…
Telling you the rope is at 26m when it’s actually at 30…
.
Our mind plays tricks on us and sometimes it works to take it at its own game and trick it back 😜
.
🛑 Careful! To be done only if you know the person well, if you have enough teaching experience to be sure of yourself, and if you know for a fact that it’s safe.
We definitely don’t want to bring the person to black-out or injury, and definitely don’t want to lose their trust.
.
Has your instructor ever lied to you? Have you ever lied to your student? Did it work to overcome the mental limitations? 👇

Write in the comments one word that comes to your mind when you think of me or when someone mentions my name, or one word you would use to describe me to someone.

Then if I know you in real life I will do the same for you. And if I don’t know you yet I will go check out your instagram and tell you one word that your IG account inspired me.

Why it helps your mouthfill?
Because 90% of the time when freedivers leak or swallow their mouthfill through the glottis it’s because of an unruly tongue. I know fully well, because it’s been my issue for years 😜
.
Poor control, tension, small shock when crossing a thermocline, losing focus… this can all make the back of your tongue suddenly go up (especially if that’s its normal comfortable resting state!).

If that happens while you still have tons of air in the mouth, the sudden overpressure it creates is too much for your glottis to sustain. And… voilà! Air leaks or the glottis opens and you swallow your entire mouthfill.

This exercise builds tongue control and ability to keep the back of your tongue down when you need to.

Off you go! And may the Freediving gods be with you 😜 by @enkicoaching

Yes both of these are mouthfills. There are pros and cons to each of them.

Which one do you think is easier to charge? To learn? To hold?
Which one gives you more air and therefore takes you deeper?
Which one do you use in your own dives?
.
.
.
.
.
Answers:
#1 is a big reverse pack. It’s easier to learn, to charge, to hold and to manage, but the charge is smaller. Less air = less depth.
#2 is a charge with abdominal crunch. Way more air and therefore way more potential depth. But it’s harder to charge (creates more tensions), and harder to hold and manage without leaking or swallowing the air through the glottis or the lips. by @enkicoaching

Yes ok, choppy conditions are making it a bit harder to relax, and you might have to adapt a bit your habits and your technique to the waves.
.
But there are always solutions to every problem! Dive with the waves, not against them, you’ll never win!
