Finishing touches of Motherland And Flagpole. Cintanya telah menyatu dengan garis darah keturunan. Penolakan eksistensinya tidak pernah memadamkan cinta nya. Cintanya tetap tumbuh sampai akhir hayat. by @entangwiharso

*Motherland and Flagpole*. A painting depicting a natural bond of love whose very existence is denied—a rejection and repudiation of sincere affection rooted in the nature of blood ties. Despite the genuine and wholehearted nature of this love and loyalty, it is perceived and portrayed as something not equal or viewed merely as a threat. The flag becomes an object of contested control; those holding dissenting views—or the minority—seem denied equal rights or see their rights obscured, yet they bear an equal burden of responsibility upon their shoulders. by @entangwiharso

Children of 21 st Century and Blue Sunflower. Lukisan ini memunculkan kembali kenangan saya ditengah menyelesaikan lukisan Me As Teddy Bear, tahun 2005, lukisan 3 x 6 meter tengah malam. Tiba tiba terdengar pertanyaan yang tak terduga. Kenapa orang dalam lukisan ini dalam kesakitan? Suara ibuku sambil menemani saya melukis. Wong sing ndase biru melasi banget ! Lara , lara nemen ya? Kasihan orang yang berkepala biru kasihan banget ! Sakit, sakit sekali ya? Komentar ibuku dari belakang sambil mengamati lukisan yang sedang aku kerjakan. Lukisan kuwi kaya donga, akeh pengarepan karo impian ben dunia semakin apik. Kaya pengingat kanggo aku dewek. Jawab saya ya lukisan merupakan seperti doa. Banyak harapan dan bermimpi biar dunia semakin baik. Sebagai pengingatku. Lukisan Children of 21 st Century and Blue Sunflower ini merupakan kelanjutan doa doa yang aku panjatkan semoga akan memberi vibrasi yang penuh cahaya dan sebagai pengingat apa yang terjadi pada anak anak didunia yang menjadi korban. by @entangwiharso

There is always hope. A painting featuring garden sunflowers and Asiatic lilies as the background for a young boy reaching toward the sky. The comparison to sunflowers that bow their heads as they mature—much like rice stalks bending low when heavy with grain—is a classic cultural metaphor. It symbolizes that as one grows older, true knowledge and profound wisdom should foster humility rather than arrogance. by @entangwiharso

Visit the Museum and step into the world of Play / Pretend -- on view now. 🌸🎪

'Fake and Real — Live Together Forever' by Entang Wiharso (@entangwiharso) is a striking reminder of the dream-like, magical worlds that artists can create and inhabit.

Within Play / Pretend, Wiharso’s multidisciplinary practice spans painting, cast metal, and ceramics, drawing inspiration from the rich visual and narrative traditions of Javanese shadow puppetry. His practice moves across geographies, shaped by the time he divides between Indonesia and Rhode Island. Working between these contexts, he brings together distinct cultural frameworks, allowing them to overlap and collide.

Come explore Play / Pretend where the real and the imagined live together. ✨

Another Falling Down Angel, 2026, pit firing ceramic. In this time, my practice operates between observation and allegory, documentation and myth. It reflects an effort to reconcile personal vulnerability with broader socio-political instability, while questioning the resilience of humanistic ideals within contemporary structures of power. by @entangwiharso

Tang Contemporary Art, Beijing @tangcontemporaryart is pleased to announce the international group exhibition Crowds Passing Through One Another, opening on May 20 - June 25, 2026, Beijing 1st Space. Curated by Han Yali, the exhibition brings 40 works by 23 artists from diverse cultural backgrounds across the globe.

The exhibition “Crowds Passing Through One Another” brings together twenty-three artists Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Rodel Tapaya, AES+F, Entang Wiharso, Etsu Egami’s, Gongkan’s, H. H. Lim’s, Mit Jai Inn, Sakarin Krue-On, Jarupatcha Achacasmith, Kaito Itsuki, Armin Boehm, Vasan Sitthiket, Adel Abdessemed, Marinella Senatore, Kitti Narod, Woo Kukwon, and Yoon, Studio Lenca, Lucas Kaiser, Frida Wannerberger, Lin Yin Ting and Diren Lee. These images are like archipelagos adrift on the ocean: now drawing close, now drifting apart. Through their continual crossings, overlaps, and displacements, they produce a faint yet persistent resonance with the contemporary world.

These artists hail from diverse cultural backgrounds, and their artistic languages retain the particular visual experiences, psychological structures, social memories, and perceptual modes native to each. Where these elements overlap and interpenetrate, they continually generate subtle yet complex deviations. It is precisely for this reason that the exhibition does not aspire to a stable, unified act of viewing; instead, through continual refraction, displacement, and misreading, it gradually undoes its own original structures of meaning. Every viewer who moves through it is thus invited to draw upon personal experience, memory, and perception, and to discover, within the images, a translation of their own. Slide 1
