20.09.2026, Victoria Park mid autumn lantern fest
.
Had a BEAUT evening getting sore feet with @tayla_fae walking around Victoria Park and soaking in the lantern festival ambience.
.
This year was considerably larger then precious years. There were the usual market stalls and lantern displays within the Lantern Carnival area set up on the playing fields. But this year there were even kore market stalls set up along the brick walk way towards Causeway Road, and the magnificent World Lantern Boulevard: a tunnel of lanterns inspired by lanterns from atound the global.

19.09.2026, Fanling -> KFBG hike
.
Lovely small group hike from meetup app with a man training for the Oxfam Trail Walker in November (100km within 48hours). I had to take an early exit on this hike due to evening plans, but next time he hosts I'll certainly keep the evening free so I can get in a solid 7-8 hour hike 😌

12.09.2026, Kowloon Reservoirs hike

Second big group hike from meetup app; there were more people and I got overwhelmed. I finished the hike by myself taking time to stop, snack, and soak the feet.

August and September night hikes
.
I have been loving the Wednesday night hikes I've been joining from the meetup app.
.
I always see lots of geckos on the way up the hill, I've also seen a civet cat, a tree frog, toads, and one sadly injured snake.

02.08.2026, Lake hike
.
Final full day in France! And Miles graciously drove us to the mountains for a stunning lake side walk. We took both dogs, slogged it up big ol hill in like 28° heat and no shade, imediately threw the dogs in the lake upon arrival to cool them off, then circumnavigated the water till we found a good spot for picnic and a dip. We continued all the way around through some really lovely woodland and Amy and I got in a second dip before we headed home.

01.08.2026, River walk and Salies-de-Béarn on fête
.
After another solid lie-in and calm morning, Amy and I took the dogs for a walk down to the river where we took a swim. Miles joined us later by bike and we all watched a group of merry-makers float by on blow-up mattresses.
.
In the evening we headed out to Salies-de-Béarn, which was "on fête". This meant an area with carnival rides and stalls for the teens and a live music stage food and drinks for everyone else. We had a lively walkabout in the town beyond the festivites as well as staying a little while to listen to some tunes and picking up carby snacks on the way out. A beaut evening.

I also think this was the night that I woke up to a noise and spotted a hedgehog outside my window. Then one of the cats spotted my torch light and came in the window and demanded my attention and the hedgehog I was trying to watch ran away 🥲 Cats be catting.

31.07.2026, Navarrenx walkabout and Producers market
.
This day I had regained energy and after a lazy morning I took myself to walk around the town properly. I took in the ancient town wall, visited the old gate house where I saw a nest-full of baby house martins (I think), and some classic ye-olde mannequins depicting life at the gate house. I also walked all up and down the streets admiring the houses.

Ater work the three of us returned to town for a drink at the producers market; a small town fête with producers (surprise surprise) selling their wears of food and drink.

30.07.2026, Provincial houses and yoga
.
The sleep went hard and I got up suoer late and lay on the sofa watching Netflix till the afternoon whilst Amy and Miles worked. We cooked a lovely lunch together and Miles then took me for shopping.
.
In the evening we all attended a yoga class in town and I snapped some pics of the very beautiful houses.
