Hi ENV students,

I hope that you are enjoying your summer break. This fall, I’ll be teaching ABD 253/ENV 222– Food justice in Black communities. If you’ve taken some of my courses in the past, you know that this will be another exciting course filled with interesting and interactive discussions. If you haven’t taken any of my classes, this will be an excellent opportunity to engage in thought-provoking conversations about food availability and access. If you’re looking into entering a career in urban agriculture, environmental justice, and advocacy, this class is especially for you!

🇩🇴 Study Abroad in the Dominican Republic: Sustainable Food Systems & Social Justice

Taking place during the Spring Break (academic year 2026-2027), this program focuses on sustainable food systems development 🌾 and environmental restoration 🌿 in the DR. Students will examine the relationship between current urban and rural development issues and their deeply intertwined relationship with the history, politics, and economy of the DR and its neighboring country, Haiti.

- Work with and learn from local students and experts
- Visit Río Limio, Santiago, and Carberete

🧬 BIO 335/445: CONCEPTS IN EVOLUTION explores how evolution shapes life and society. Through discussion and examination of scientific literature, this class will dive into advanced evolutionary biology concepts and questions. This course will be taught by Dr. Windsor on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:40 to 4:10!

🌿👥 NATURE, SOCIETY, & POWER: Fossil Fuels and the Crisis of the Environment and Society explores the relationship between fossil fuels, politics, history, economics, the environment, and life on our planet 🌎 . This course will be taught by Prof. Kaveh Ehsani on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:20 to 5:50!

🌐🌱 GEO 365/465: Cultural & Political Ecology introduces the theoretical foundations and development of political ecology. Political ecology assesses environmental change and social vulnerability in the developing world while examining global economic development and environmental policy. This course will be taught by Alec Brownlow on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 2:30 pm!
