This past summer, ENYF had the pleasure of welcoming NYU Global Climate Fellows, Anjani and Caroline, to our staff for 8 weeks. During their time with us, Anjani and Caroline conducted research and surveys measuring the environmental impact of our 0.5 acre Urban Farm, Community Composting program and weekly Farmers Markets.

We are so excited to share their findings with our supporters and showcase how vital farms and gardens are to building up climate resiliency in urban areas. Their research highlights how the ENY Youth Farm is working to reduce greenhouse gases, mitigate flooding and sequester carbon through our crop production, on-site composting and transformation of a formerly abandoned lot into a thriving farm space! Our weekly Farmers Markets enhance local food security by bringing fresh, affordable and locally grown produce to East New York and converting food benefits into healthy and culturally relevant food

Check out some highlights from their research below, thank you to the NYU ECJS Lab Global Energy, Climate Justice, and Sustainability Fellows program and Anjani and Caroline for your wonderful work in helping us measure our greater impact 🌱 💜 #urbansustainability by @enyfarms

We’re making headway as we prepare to open the Soulful Seed Library this fall!

🌱 This past Saturday we gathered library and community members for our second skillshare @enyfarms led by Alexx, ENY Youth Farm Manager and the Library’s Lead Seed Keeper.

🌱 Community members joined us in learning about plants that are going to seed; foundational seed saving terms; and how to process a number of fruits, flowers, and vegetable seeds that are going to be some of what’s available once the library officially opens.

🌱 More photos and details on our BL0G 🔗 in our BI0

Thanks to everyone that came out to hang with the seeds, @enyfarms crew, @farmschool_nyc for supporting this project, and @drinktractor for providing refreshments to our community!

🫘LIBRARY MEMBERS 🫘If you’ve already signed up (or very recently signed up) to be a member you’ll be the first to know when registration for the library’s November grand opening becomes available *and* to vote on what seeds you’re hoping to see in the library.
