Reflections on this year’s closing session of
☁️ CURE Rituals of Protection:
Crafting Cotton Amulets ☁️ are up on our BL0G + more photos!!

We opened this past September with so many curious, abundantly knowledgeable, and creative souls as we continued our seasons long journey of connecting and crafting with cotton.

Focusing our discussions even further on the protective, soft, and transformative properties of this powerful plant by uplifting the spiritual practices of African diasporic people of the Southern U.S. specifically hoodoo, and encouraging folks to reflect and get curious about the protective rituals of their own lineages to ground their craft.

It was a truly beautiful day thanks to @mumbetsfreedomfarm @s_a_johnson for all their magic and co-facilitation of the space; as well as deep gratitude to all the community members and artists who came out to learn, share, and work on their amulets. As usual big thanks to the @enyfarms farm crew.

This year’s series is sponsored, in part, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council.

@nhsbrooklyn takes a photo with the wonderful Gail P. Dukes during the ribbon cutting ceremony of the Gail P Duke Senior Residence and Center, 350 Livonia Ave. in Brownsville, named in her honor.

The senior residence has 144 apartments, a senior center, and Catholic Charity case workers on site to address needs.

This project was decades in the making.

✨💪🏽♥️ We the people shape our communities. Let’s dream out loud and keep standing up for what we want for ourselves and each other. We are the wind and water that cut through rock 🌊 and the earth that moves mountains.⛰️ Everything is possible.

✨Thank you, artist Madjeen Isaac @madjeenisaac , and thank you, community, for participating in Madjeen’s collage workshop “Reimagine Your Hood” at Brooklyn FAM’s community arts programming at East NY Youth Farm this past August. Thank you, @enyfarms , for your terrific partnership.

Together we cut collages from images of existing landscapes to reimagine our worlds.

✨What do you love about your neighborhood?
✨What makes you feel safe?
✨What do you wish to see?

Together, let’s create the world we want to live in and the future we wish for generations to come.

As a proud product of this community, I am deeply committed to creating opportunities for our youth and paving the way for a brighter, more inclusive future.
That is why it was important for me to stop by Schenck Avenue in East New York to connect with our vibrant community and support local initiatives that bring us together.

A huge shout-out to the Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation and East New York Farmers Market for their dedication and hard work in organizing events that uplift our neighborhood 🫂🙌🏾
