join us on October 4 at @rosewolffstudio to premiere an original piece by LA composer @thenatebarnett entitled “for Mary — a journal of devotion”

this is an open choir event — all are welcome! RSVP in bio

a bit about the piece from Nate:
“‘for Mary - a journal of devotion’ opens a window into the private world of Frances Willard. Willard was a prominent social activist in the 19th century, serving as the president of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union from 1879 to 1898. Through decades of public life, she championed a wide range of causes, including temperance, prison reform, and women’s suffrage.

Much of Willard’s private world is documented in her 50 volumes of journals. for Mary sets entries from 1860 and 1861, which center on letters to and from Mary Bannister, some sent, some seen by no one. These letters communicate a devotion that moves from friendship into romantic love and erotic passion.

The music focuses on this desire, their intense passion for each other, and their feeling of wanting something they can’t have.”

join us THIS SUNDAY for our last event before the summer, a picnic and conversation in Carlson Park to close out the season.

If you find yourself associated with this project in any way, you’re invited! (Singers, arrangers, composers, engineers, visual documentarians, venue managers, volunteers, etc.)

From 3:30-4:30 I’ll be facilitating a conversation that will hopefully give us a chance to process our experiences together this year. It’ll also be an opportunity for you to provide the project with feedback, an opportunity for me to hear what’s working and what could be better, and to dream together about possible futures. Then we’ll just hang at the park!

If we end up with a larger group, we may break into smaller groups for part of it to facilitate deeper conversations. If it’s a smaller group, it may be a more casual discussion.

Invitation to bring food/bev to share! And a picnic blanket, maybe. There are some tables and grills at Carlson Park, but it also might be nice to sit in the grass. We’ll wrap our convo and then just hang in the park for however long after... see you there, I hope!
