EPIC FRIDAY!

I have to keep reminding myself that this is a marathon and not a sprint. The pressure from social media to be skinny, have a 6 pack, look shredded is not something that comes over night.

Day by day, week by week, month by month, year by year we build strength. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither are we!

Unbound Gravel 200 was the “all in” race for me this season. 1800 racers from 56 countries. 200 in my age group. The goal was a Top 10.
I trained so well, so hard, so focused to come in prepared. Sometimes fate has other plans.
We were met with hail, thunderstorms, sunshine, heat, mud, gravel slurry. Mother Nature was truly violent all day.
By mile 115 I charged my way into the top 10 with no signs of slowing. The top 5 was just minutes up the gravel. Thriving in the conditions with exceptiaonal legs.
During the last thunderstorm I lost my glasses that were perched on my helmet. Exposing my eyes to all the mud and slurry. I tried and tried to clear the grit from my eyes. It just kept getting worse. Eventually my sight was gone. All I had to wash with was carbs and sodium in bottles. That sucked.
Now blind it was impossible to continue.
Picture #1 was when I stopped and tried to see what was in my eyes. I couldn’t see myself in the camera or the picture 🤣 Pictures #3 was a few hours later. Swollen and painful.
Up to this point I was having the race of my dreams. The biggest gravel race in the world with a podium in sight. I leave with massive pride and excitement to return.
A huge thank you my pit crew, BP and ERAD. Performed like NASCAR pit crews.
It’s going to be several days for my eyes to heal. But I’m in for 2027…..if the lottery Gods are on my side.
