After III Points weekend, EQ No.4 brings the people who place music in TV, film, ads and games to Ampersand on Tuesday, October 20. Sync is how a song lands in a show, a movie or a campaign, and the people who own the song get paid for it. It’s also Billboard Latin Music Week, with the Latin Billboards on Thursday, so a lot of the music industry is in Miami that week. EQ is a DIY music industry summit for Miami’s artists, producers and the people building careers with them. It exists to give Miami’s artists the access their talent already earned. A panel of people who work in sync will break down how songs get picked for placement and what you need ready before you pitch. Free headshots by @3.2.juanflashstudios for the first hour, so your press kit is ready when someone asks for it. The Demo Room is back. Nobody books you off a link to your SoundCloud. They ask for a press kit, and most artists either don't have one or have one that's quietly costing them work. EQ No. 3 is where you fix that. EQ is our monthly music industry summit. One night a month we put Miami's artists, producers, engineers, and DJs in the same room as the people who can move a career. Before you sign anything, know what you actually want from your music. Entertainment attorney Somara Jacques opened her workshop at EQ with the first question every artist should answer. There are really only three things you can do with your music: • Own it and keep it.
 • Give a song away for money and use that to fund your next project.
 • Leverage it. Sign with the industry for a few years, then build the position to buy it back later, the way a Taylor Swift or a Drake can. Most artists pick without knowing they picked.
