Today, September 15th, marks Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) Women’s Equal Pay Day. Join our movement to spotlight a critical affordability issue: the persistent wage gap that threatens the economic survival of NHPI women, gender-diverse individuals, and families. Head to the link in our bio to learn more about this day and how you can take action. 🌺💵📊🗣️

Today also marks National Voter Registration Day, so as the midterm elections approach, we urge our communities to vote for leaders committed to addressing structural inequities, closing the wage gap, and ensuring economic justice for all NHPI women and families. Head to our midterm election page at the link in our bio to prepare yourself for this upcoming election season! 🗳️☑️

This is not just about numbers; it’s about whether women can provide for their families and thrive in their communities. Today we demand action from policy makers and systems leaders: disaggregate the data, enforce equal pay, and strengthen worker protections. Share this message and stand with NHPI women.

Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander women can lose more than $1 million in earnings to the pay gap over their careers compared to white, non-Hispanic men. Pay inequity varies across NHPI communities, with barriers such as caregiving responsibilities and occupational segregation often widening the gap.

Systemic change is essential. While we work to advance change, AAUW’s free salary negotiation and financial literacy programs can help you advocate for fair pay and strengthen your long-term economic security.

On this NHPI Women’s Equal Pay Day, we urge you to get empowered. Link in bio.

NHPI women overall are paid just 67¢ for every $1 paid to white, non-Hispanic men–and disaggregated data reveals even wider gaps for many NHPI communities, with some losing hundreds of thousands—sometimes millions—over their lifetimes.

📉 According to the latest @usbls_gov numbers and analysis from @nationalwomenslawcenter National, women bore virtually ALL of the labor market’s losses last month. For an economy to be healthy, women need to be thriving.
Economic injustice isn’t just unequal pay; it’s also being the first ones fired, the last ones hired, and being funneled into the lowest-paying jobs. by @equalpay2dayorg

At a time when workers are struggling to get by, the federal government should be using every tool available to make sure we can identify and address discrimination that reduces job opportunities and results in lower pay.

Instead, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, or the EEOC, is trying to eliminate workforce demographic data collection, known as the EEO-1, that has long been used to identify workplace discrimination and enforce the law. Without this crucial data, disparities in pay, promotions, and hiring become harder to identify and easier to ignore. We use this data right here in Massachusetts to ensure equal pay and equal representation for all.

⚖️ On Tuesday, the ERA D.C. team went to an EEOC hearing to testify against Chair Andrea Lucas’s attempt to stop collecting essential workplace demographic data. Without this data, it will be a lot harder for the federal government and employers to address discrimination, which is currently on the rise.

Catherine Hinshaw from @mujerxsrising shares about the importance of data collection for women, especially migrant women, rural women, and women of color. ✊🏽
The way they are being hired, promoted, and represented fairly directly correlates to data that has previously been collected and analyzed.

🚨 The @useeoc wants to get rid of this critical data collection, and when that happens, fair workplace practices will disappear.
We cannot let this happen!

🚨Organizations across the country are banding together to demand the @useeoc keep a workforce data collection tool (known as EEO-1), which has helped identify discrimination in the workplace for over SIXTY YEARS. ✊🏽

🚫 Without data tracking, there are limited ways to fix unfair hiring, pay, and promotion practices. This will be devastating for women and people of color if it goes through.

📣 Speak out with us! Go to the Take Action link in our bio. Submit a pre-drafted public comment to demand the EEOC keep this critical data collection!

Don’t let the Administration and @EEOC get away with cutting women, LGBTQIA+ communities, and anyone deemed a "legal or policy concern" from the narrative. Stop the erasure by submitting a public comment before the hearing on Tuesday 08/11. It takes less than 5 minutes. by @equalpay2dayorg

New report: Mothers perform approximately $683 billion worth of unpaid care work annually, yet face pay discrimination and other unfair barriers to advancement at work. Motherhood should not mean a lifetime of disproportionate costs and workplace penalties.
