Important Announcement:

We’re choosing a different path.

At EQUUS, we’ve made the decision to step away from social media—not out of fear, but out of integrity.

These platforms, while once full of promise, too often pull us away from presence, erode our attention, and compromise the quality of true connection.

We believe in spaces that honor sovereignty, foster genuine dialogue, and nourish the human spirit. You’ll find us where that kind of connection lives:

Horses respond to who we are in the moment, not who we intend to be, which makes learning with them both illuminating and unexpectedly moving. The EQUUS Experience, the flagship horse-assisted program for individuals, couples, and families, creates space for joyful self-discovery and a renewed understanding of communication and trust.

This month’s edition of The Insight is out now. Below is an excerpt from this 2 minutes read.

The stories you tell yourself about what you can and cannot do builds walls around our existence.

Many of us are aware that negative, limiting stories can imprison us, but so-called ‘positive’ ones can constrain your life too.

For example, the narrative, “I am resilient” held as a longtime belief about yourself, can create situations that reinforce the story where you must be resilient.

Our next Course, The Wisdom of Thriving begins in April.

The Wisdom of Thriving is more than a course—it’s an immersive experience into the principles of thriving, embodied by an ancient natural system that is informed by seven key principles: Safety, Connection, Peace, Freedom, Joy, Care, and Presence.

The course is based on Kelly’s book Flying Lead Change: 56 Million Years of Wisdom for Leading and Living.

The Wisdom of Thriving is a deep dive experiential exploration of the seven dimensions of living and leadership that ensure meaning and success.

In this small, intimate group setting, you’ll receive personal attention and tailored support as you explore weekly themes:

Session 1: Learning to Listen – Tune into yourself and others with heightened awareness.

Session 2: Care – What is true care? And what is it not? How can you care for others without it costing you in return?

Session 3: Presence – Cultivate the capacity to be deeply present, regardless of external circumstances. Learn how this shift can positively impact your life.

Session 4: Safety – Build a foundation of emotional and physical security for yourself and others, that fosters trust in daily life.

Session 5: Connection – Strengthen bonds with others, yourself, and the natural world that in turn promotes innovation and leverages capacity in others.

Session 6: Peace – Discover the real reason why peace seems elusive, and transform it into a longterm trait

Session 7: Freedom – What do you want to do with this one precious life? Liberate yourself from limiting thoughts and beliefs that hold you back.

Session 8: Joy – Joy is your natural birthright. Tap into ways to make yourself more ‘joy-prone’

How Assertiveness Transformed Sandra’s Life

Sandra was a respected senior leader of a healthcare organization.

But in times of stress, she tended to blow up at her direct reports, leaving her to pick up the pieces to regain trust again.

It was a pattern that she knew well, but no matter what she tried, it persisted.

Then she joined our Assertiveness for Life and Leadership course.

Naturally she hyperfocused on the blow ups, but the key, she soon discovered, was in the peaceful times.

It was there she took on too much, said ‘yes’ when she needed to say ‘no’, and basically overloaded her nervous system, so that when the stress arrived, she had little inner resources.

Tending to herself in the peaceful times gave her more resilience in the stressful times, and soon she was no longer blowing up.

Finding your authentic voice and right use of power at work can be challenging, especially because there are many factors that contribute to conditioning you to play small, defer, or minimize your contribution.

The EQUUS Assertiveness for Life and Leadership identifies and dismantles that conditioning, so that your natural born clarity can serve not only you, but your team.

Our early bird pricing ends on Thursday and we only have a few spots left! Link in bio.

Journaling has been a part of my personal practices since I was a child. Over the years I have been guided to add self-inquiry practices in addition to creative writing, poetry and random thoughts.

This year, I chose the Full Focus journal for wellness and am inspired by the organization of my projects and goals I have for 2025. Among them, I am hoping to publish 3 books this year. One is already in final stages of publishing and two are in editing.

Another goal of mine is to bring inspiration form my @equusinspired experiences last year and bring a horse into my life and into my work. I am using this gorgeous horse hair token from Kelly as a daily reminder.

What are your goals this year? Would love to hear!

As a child, I learned to survive my family system by being the good girl.

I honed an ability to anticipate needs, and meet them. I could sense people’s moods and emotions, thus navigating my way around the invisible rules of engagement by pleasing, and dodging conflict.

So as an adult I was conflict averse and an over-functioner, plus I had near-psychic abilities to anticipate needs and feel others’ feelings.

Though at the time I could see nothing wrong with pleasing and being empathic, and I valued my heroic work ethic, these habits cost me a lot of relationships.

I often grew resentful, even hostile. And I created entitlement and selfishness in good-hearted people. I used to say to my friends, “I create monsters”.

These habits also cost me my health, and a business. At some point I realized that I had to change my relationship to assertiveness, boundaries and healthy self-entitlement if I was going to get anywhere in my life.

I found there were very few resources out there that truly embraced the complexities of interpersonal dynamics, historic shaping of our personalities, and a deeply holistic and respectful way forward.

This months edition of The Insight is out now.

Everything takes energy, and energy is all we have to make things happen in our life. So implementing a regular energy audit is a great exercise to help you identify energy sucks. One huge energy suck is “open loops”.

At a young age I was taught to avoid conflict at all cost. Conflict was dangerous, and survival meant appeasing the adversary at any cost. This left me ill-equipped as an adult to handle conflict even in safer, less threatening scenarios.

In the face of interpersonal differences, I pleased others, ameliorated issues, and dismissed, diminished and downplayed my own needs. The narrative I held was that I was a nice person, and that I was “just not that attached” to having my way. But in truth I was a coward, and terrified of the encounter.

I also began to notice that my needs went underground, and when they did, I acted out in passive aggressive ways. I was secretive, manipulative and judgmental. My needs didn’t disappear like I had hoped, instead they just simmered and became toxic versions of themselves.

I didn’t like this reflection and it prompted me to step outside of my comfort zone and risk showing up with assertiveness and self agency. It took years in the making, but I have been surprised to discover that paradoxically the more boundaried, clear, forthcoming and direct I am, the kinder and more compassionate I am.

It can be scary to break the pattern of fear in conflict, but it changes everything in your life.

If you are longing to have more authentic relationships, to be brave in the face of conflict and express your boundaries in a skillful way, reply “Brave” to this email to learn more and join my course Assertiveness for Life and Leadership. Our Doors for enrollement are closing soon.
