One of the Red Hook Pier buildings had a 5 alarm fire last night/early this morning. The intensity of the blaze was visible from my apartment about 1.5 miles from the site. I hope the artists and businesses affected can rebuild and repair soon.

The Studio Reboot Marathon
Episode 37: The Reef Relic

Featuring my good friend @ericbenjaminbarcelona
in this episode. Seems I'm working backwards in his process because this is what he does to make these sculptures before taking them into the coldshop, as shown in Episode 8: The Grind. Be sure to check out Eric's feed for photos that better exhibit the incredible detail in each one of these Reef Relic pieces he meticulously creates..

My old pal Bill is doing a marathon reposting of the amazing Lego stop action clips from his series called “The Studio.” Today is my turn with “The Grind,” his take on the cold working aspect of my process. Thanks Bill for honoring your friends from the urbanglass_nyc community with your uniquely creative series.

Hot Shop Output from Nov 2024 - April 2025.
Some of the 90+ raw forms turned out during my winter season in the hot shop. Now it’s on to the summer season in the cold shop where I obviously have lots of work to catch up on.

Each of these nuggets will be transformed into at least 2 obsessively cut, faceted, and optically polished “Reef Remnant” objects.

Picture #2 shows my loaded pick up kiln before we embark on a hot shop session.

Special thanks for the outstanding assists from @jessimoorenotless and @delolley613 and to the UrbanGlass tech staff for always keeping the sessions running smoothly.

Antarctica 2025
Sunset, Sunrise

1. Sunset 01/04/2025 11:22 PM

Three hours later…

2. Sunrise 01/05/2025 2:37 AM

The sun was visible for 21 hours a day though it never really got dark. Early January is close enough to the solstice, that if we had been further south (below the Antarctic Circle) the sun would’ve been visible for 24 hours.
