Meet Eric @ericbenjaminbarcelona, a native New Yorker whose artistic journey started with a BA in English Literature. From an administrative manager to a dedicated glass artist, he discovered a passion for glass blowing in 1988, marking the beginning of a transformative creative endeavor.
His 29 year focus on glass blowing showcases an immediate, edgy art form that captivates him like no other. Eric's goal is to convey the awe and exhilaration he experiences in crafting each glass object, with an emphasis on the magical properties of glass.
Within the UrbanGlass community, Eric stands as one of the longest-tenured artists, contributing as an artist representative on the board and generously donating essential studio equipment. Represented by galleries like Mostly Glass and having shown at @smithsoniancraftshowsswc, Eric's extensive collection is a reflection of his commitment to craftsmanship and the unimaginable possibilities that unfold when passion and creativity intertwine. His Reef Relic series, which he's been working on for the past 11 years, perfectly illustrates this as it takes a closer examination of themes he touched on with much larger vessels earlier in his career but now with smaller sculptures containing infintely greater deteails

Last year I was very fortunate to be a visiting designer at @urbanglass_nyc and last month I ended the fellowship with 2 intense days of coiling glass with an incredible crew of artists. I have posted a series of videos and images in my highlight stories - please watch for more!
The team included @ribcagemassage @jasonrobertbauer @lieslschubel @james_corporan and @raiffeglass
It was a total blast working with these wonderful people and I'm so grateful to @urbanglass_nyc for the opportunity to learn and make this work. I'm hooked!
Thanks to @ericbenjaminbarcelona for some great photos and @brian_kibler for video of the last moment.

If you're an artist or designer in NYC interested in expanding your skillset, material knowledge, or making some pieces in glass be sure to look into the visiting artist opportunities at UG.
