Nancy kindly invited me up to the hot shop at the @schackartcenter in Everett, where she and her team were executing several pieces for a forthcoming project. Truth be told, in all my years, I have never witnessed live glassblowing, so this was a unique opportunity for me to take it all in. For much of the morning, I hung on the periphery so as not to disrupt this intricate and graceful dance these four individuals shared. With her team, Mariah, Tanner, and Eric, I observed with astonishment not only at the choreography of their movements and the systematic flow of their respective functions, but also at the fluency of a language they all seemed to be speaking. Amidst the hum of the furnaces and the lively playlist, this language was not always spoken aloud. There were eye catches, hand gestures, and visual cues that any ordinary human might overlook, but with this team, those nonverbal signs were crucial. The repetition from furnace to bench, where Nancy acted as gaffer, the others rotating between assisting roles, reheating, blowing, cooling pipes, managing tools and paddles, etc. And Nancy’s sincere and ingrained leadership was on full display. She possesses a level of detail and technical know-how that provides her and the team with absolute clarity. It was a pleasure to capture these exchanges and to see this formation take shape. The camaraderie and joy that the team shared that morning still resonates a week later. by @eric_m_pedersen

made for pasta.

Pasta Monsta teamed up with Brooklyn glass artist Adeye Jean Baptiste to create a series of handblown bowls designed to be the centerpiece of the table.

The idea was to create something functional, handmade, and meant to be shared around the table.
