Work still in progress but she’s coming along. The Mayan Goddess Ixchel, often portrayed with a snake on her head, goddess of the moon, of weaving, fertility, childbirth, creativity, and water. She is portrayed sometimes as a young woman and sometimes as an elder.

The Underworld
Breathing in thick humid air
In an underground cave
She bleeds endlessly
Red flowing into the water
The sharp scent of death flows into her lungs
She inhales deeply
Her ribs are cracking
She is crumbling
Disintegrating
Into the underworld
The pain in her chest will not last forever
She sighs with relief
As her rotting flesh begins to fall
She is not afraid
Goddess Ixchel of the Underworld
Has died thousands of times

A diverse and fearless imagination in the arts is more urgently needed than ever. BAN THIS: The Art of Visual and Spatial Resistance explores and celebrates counterculture and resistance, and how we can keep imagining new ways of doing and being, to tell it like it is, but also imagine what is possible.

Countercultures have always emerged in response to restriction. Humans create new visual languages, reclaiming space, preserving stories, building community, and ways of existing outside of what dominant culture allows.

BAN THIS: The Art of Visual & Spatial Resistance explores and celebrates counterculture and resistance, and how we can keep imagining new ways of doing and being.

Create what they told you not to.

Imagine what they told you was impossible.

And fight to make it real.

“To be truly visionary, we have to root our imagination in our concrete reality while simultaneously imagining possibilities beyond that reality. The practice of freedom in daily life, and that includes artistic freedom, is always a liberatory act that begins with the will to imagine.” - bell hooks

Trying out some diy photoshoot set design. I’ve been so inspired by the way creators build worlds, whether in film, theater, music videos, paintings, or photoshoots. 🌎 by @ericaconjures
