$164,000.

That’s the number.

So I made a decision.

The kids and I are leaving our NYC apartment and moving back to the home I grew up in so I can eliminate it in 18 months.

Not because I failed.
Because I refuse to carry what I can conquer.

I’m a single mom.
I lead this household.
And I’m choosing long-term freedom over short-term comfort.

This is the Debt Reset Series.

No shame.
No ego.
Just execution.

Hi, I’m Erica.

I’m a founder, a lawyer, and a single mom of two incredible humans and I lead my household.

Over the next 18 months, I’m documenting a decision that wasn’t easy, but was necessary.

The kids and I are moving back to the home I grew up in so I can eliminate $164,000 in debt while building two companies and raising them on my own.

I am not struggling but I’m owning my stuff!
I am choosing long-term freedom over short-term comfort and modeling discipline, humility, and leadership for my littles.

On this page, you’ll see motherhood, money, rebuilding, systems, and strategy.

You’ll see tears, joy and a lot of work.

If you’re into real numbers, real responsibility, and real growth, welcome!

Day 151

One of the biggest contributors to my debt was childcare.

At one point, I was paying $4,000/month for part-time childcare so I could keep working. Looking back, I understand why so many families are rethinking when or whether to have children.

This is part of my story! 💙

Day 150

During the last two weeks, this lovely lady has held me DOWN so I could attend work events. I appreciate you Mama.

Without my village, I’ve got nothing.

Sometimes your village is 100 and sometimes it’s 1. Whatever the size of your village, ask for help AND appreciate the person/people giving it to you.

You’ve given us a soft place to land so that I can pay this debt down. Thank you today and everyday. by @ericagmartin

Day 149

I’ve been walking to and from work from Penn Station and not taking Ubers like I do when I’m with the kids. Today, with torrential downpours and tornado watches in NYC, I decided to take an Uber to the train from work.

For context, this walk consists of one long NYC street (from 10th to 9th) and five regular NYC blocks. When I Uber, because of how the streets run, it’s about 9-10 blocks total.

I want you to look at what @uber does during the times when people need them the most. They GET GREEDY!!

I ended up going in the curb app which is the app used for yellow taxis. Look at the difference in the rate. SICK! by @ericagmartin

Day 148 💙

Today I’m continuing the process of locking down my daughter’s credit by checking whether a credit file exists and placing security freezes where needed.

Identity theft can happen to kids too, so if you’re a parent, this is worth adding to your financial checklist. 🔒 by @ericagmartin

Day 146…THIS is wealth.

2012 we found out my Daddy had Galbladder cancer.

2013 4 babies were born 6 weeks apart- February, March and April.

The joy we needed. I was the only one without a kid…and that’s why I’ll forever be their favorite auntie.

They’re also my favorite 13 year olds!

Day 145

I promise to enjoy this summer. I miss my apartment but I feel FREE this summer. FREE to be OUTSIDE and I will not be spending money to do it.

I will keep posting. Keep living. Keep loving. Keep sharing.

Best summer since before the pandemic!

Day 144

Another $1,463 paid toward the debt. 💙

I’ve been throwing every extra dollar at this loan—even the monthly payments from debts I’ve already eliminated.

Yesterday’s unexpected medical expenses were a reminder that paying off debt is important, but so is taking care of yourself.

If something doesn’t feel right, get it checked. And if you don’t feel heard, get a second opinion.

We’re working hard to build wealth… don’t forget to protect the one body that makes it all possible.
