Our gala star Sara Lyn presented her amazing choreography project Earth Water 1 featuring talented dancers from all over the northwest. These dancers learned the choreography online and came together for just a few hours of rehearsal before performing!

Happy Birthday to one of the OG’s of the Rose Empire. Erica has been apart of the company long before it was named Rose Empire. She has been belly dancing for 20 years. She is an original member of Belly Funk and Sirens Bellydance. Erica has now begun her solo journey, as well as joining projects with @nwbellydanceacademy and @jillinasbdexperience.

Let’s celebrate this wonderful human on her birthday!!!

This piece is so meaningful to me for so many reasons.
Sharing the stage with four generations of direct dance lineage - my mom, myself, Saleenx, and her own students, is such a beautiful experience. Seeing the diversity that our studio stands for in once piece dancing together with each dancer honored with a role is so profound. We have so much representation here - different ages, genders, heights and body types, skin tones, pregnancy, and different levels from intermediate through professional.
In the last several years as I’ve struggled with my health, the community mom founded and I continued has now been continued to be carried by Saleenx and Thorn, as well as the other members of the community.
Coming full circle, to now being the one held up by the community, to see myself dancing in my student’s piece, side by side with the ones who came before us….the only word is magical.
Each dancer has their own story of loss, grief, and acceptance they find in this piece. Mine is multi faceted, but for me my connection to the piece has been the sense of slowly losing myself, going through many birth and death cycles, and the eventual peace of acceptance and trusting my community.
I won’t ever be a mother myself, which has been extremely difficult to cope with, but the studio gives me the closest thing I can compare it to. To see my student create such an incredible work of art that touches everyone in a profound way makes me deeply proud. I’ve never seen a single piece of art that so perfectly captures the human experience of grief and acceptance that is somehow universal and yet somehow so difficult to define. She managed to do it in under five minutes without saying a word.
I can’t be more proud of her, of our students, or of my mom for founding our community, and coming back to dance with us after time away. To see my students and my student’s students carrying the dance legacy forward is a deeply profound gift.
Full video coming soon! Thank you @nwvilafest for the platform to share this piece and for creating a beautiful event and community!

Just won 1st place in Fusion at the Wild Rose Bellydance competition! Though I’ve been competing with bellydance troupes since 2007, this was my first self-choreographed piece as a solo artist, and my first solo on a real stage!
