someone mailed me this knife. the steel is fine, but the brass on the handle glowed for lead. i rubbed it with my finger 10 times and ran the finger rinse on the graphite furnace AA. about 1.4 micrograms of lead came off, roughly 24x what's on a washed finger. last time i rubbed the brass knob on a pan lid 100 times and it gave basically nothing. same metal, very different result.

if you have cutlery with brass on it, don't handle food after touching the brass, and don't sand it without protection.

do any of these cast iron pans have lead? i tested solidteknics, field company, lancaster, finex, smithey and yeti with xrf. the iron in all six had no detectable lead. the only lead was in the brass cap on the finex, around 800 ppm, which is normal for brass.

so i cleaned two fingers with lead removal wipes, rubbed the brass 100 times with one and left the other alone, rinsed each in half a mL of dilute acid and ran them on a graphite furnace AA. both fingers came out the same, about 30 nanograms of lead. rubbing the brass didn't add anything i could measure. for scale, the prop 65 limit is 500 nanograms a day.

Ngl I need a lot of stimulation to stay interested and lead is dry compared to the consequences, which will become apparent in I guess the next 6 months or so- but I’ve found a way I swear.

Idk I think lead poisoning is stupid and unnecessary, I’ve been making the solution to it (an easy way to find it) for a while and it’s probably the best version of any method out there. Plus I wouldn’t be caught dead feeding bogus info because I have self respect for the truth (take notes it’s how to succeed)

So much misinformation so much tragic stupidity in the world and I swear it’s been literally turbocharged by lead lol. Science hasn’t established a safe limit of lead because no one can find children who have zero in their blood (apparently) / no ones published a study (would be a lot of work/ expensive/ honestly would take a lifetime.
I know I’m going on but you know how that thing that happened to you in elementary school stuck with you? Now imagine dealing with that minus 5 iq points and multiply it by 160million (Americans)

We do live in the leaded age the lead is just typically in the people sitting in traffic twice a day be #leadaware by @ericeverythinglead

Almost ready to get back to work. Honestly been feeling embarrassed to make any content related to lead given the sorry state of the game lately. Lies and misinformation abound, it’s sad that of of the 3 ppl on here making lead content I’m the only one who’s kids didn’t get exposed to lead based paint dust while in their own house and I am the only one who seems to care about doing stuff regarding it. Insane how low the bar is on this planet at this time in this domain but here we are by @ericeverythinglead

went to savers to see how bad it really is. sprayed a sonoma bowl and it lit up green on the spot. that's lead. bought the worst ones so nobody eats off them.

Lead is a very ironic subject. It dulls IQ and increases the rates of behavioral and learning problems. At the same time, in order to adequately understand lead, one must understand not only the scientific jargon accompanying the subject, but the implications in terms of dietary and environmental exposure.

This too is multifaceted, considering that no two lots of food are the same, no two structures are the same, and within the same structure the same building components can be different levels of dangerous.

Lead has literally defended itself from being overcome by humanity, by lacing all of us with a mind-dulling neurotoxin that our predecessors unfortunately put into the gasoline and house paint.

Lead crystal glassware is loaded with lead. The strange part is the more it gets used the less comes off, but only because it already leached into whoever drank from it first.

If you've got pieces you actually like, soak them in vinegar a few times (fresh vinegar each round) and you'll knock the leaching down to where it won't matter for the occasional pour. I still wouldn't keep anything acidic sitting in a lead crystal decanter.

Not sure a glass is leaded? Scratch the bottom and hit it with a cent's worth of Fluorospec. by @ericeverythinglead
