I’m drawn to melancholy songs. Occupational hazard for an Enneagram 4 songwriter I suppose.

This gem from David Wilcox has haunted me for years. As a Dallas kid, the last verse always hits close to home (so to speak…).

It’s even more poignant now as I’ve gotten older.

It seems a lot of us feel unmoored and drifting. Not sure that’s always a bad thing, honestly.

My God, September was a blur. Still recovering from quite a bit of travel.
Some heartache, but of a lot of exhausted joy too.
It’s our birthday month and today would have been my Mother’s 92nd. Remembering her and our new/old piano that’s now a new way she is always still with us.

I had a brilliant idea to repost several “September songs” in vertical format.
That’s clearly not happening, but this one seems to fit the day and seasonal moment.

It's time for the State Fair! And therefore it's time for my yearly reminder to you to visit Ranchero Fajita.

This week I was with 100 @htcumc clergy, and TWICE people mentioned the inspiration of Trini Garza...an incredible community leader and proud United Methodist.

His family continues the traditions started by he and his wife. This year, they're featuring award-winning "Holy Buñeuloco!" You gotta try this one when you visit.

We’re finishing our justice retreat for the Horizon Texas Conference. And there’s most to say about this.

But what took my breath away today was an early morning walk up to “Millers Spring.”
I gasped at the beauty multiple times.
Did not expect this but sure am grateful.

Thanks to everyone for the bday wishes. I am always deeply appreciate them on FB.

It’s certainly been one of my more unusual ones. Started at home but ended up here in Belton at a Horizon Texas Conference Retreat with 100 of my clergy colleagues. Our theme is furthering justice among the people of the HTC.

But before I left this morning, this unintentional birthday gift.

A family piano has come to us today, of all days, through the sheer lazy planning of me not scheduling the delivery last Friday. Somehow it fits though.

This piano started in our family with my Great Aunt in Atlanta Texas. It spent years in our childhood home, where my Sister and I both took lessons on it as kids.

More recently, since my Mom downsized a decade ago, it’s been with my Sister. And today, finds a new space home at the log house.

And it looks to me likes it belongs there.

Grateful for history, for music, for the future.
