Well it's safe to say this is the biggest coues deer I've ever gotten with a bow. This hunt started out difficult with the bad weather but I persisted in sitting water. A lot of people told me I was wasting my time by hunting with that method but I kept on. I had a confident feeling that a big buck would come in. With nothing but does and spikes the whole week I had an out to quit and move on but I kept at it. I was blowing through gas everyday to get there in the dark of the morning so I could hike in to sit, then I'd leave at last light. A lot of the hours of the day nothing at all came in and the cold rain blowing through my soaked blind made me want to quit sometimes. However, every morning I would recite @cameronrhanes's "keep hammering" motto in my head accompanied by @joerogan's lecture about defeating your inner bitch. Glad to say that it all paid off and my belief in the area, in myself, and my equipment were all valid.
Thank you to everyone that took the time out of their day to follow my hunt via the stories on @hunt_az's page. And thanks for all the positive messages along the way and congrats messages after I took this buck. That positivity from the hunting community is incredible and I'm thankful to be part of it.

I laid eyes on this buck for the first time ever 5 years ago. He had always been one step ahead over the years. This year I found him across the basin in tougher stalking terrain without even knowing it was him! I posted a clip of a buck earlier in the season from a long ways out that I thought looked great. Unfortunately he slipped out and I never got a better look. A couple days later I laid eyes on him close and couldn't believe it was him. That day I got within bow range but couldn't make it happen. Several days had passed afterwards with no appearance. I started to wonder if he was even still there or if he simply moved on miles away. However, I kept stubborn on him. Tuesday morning I was blessed to locate him again. I patiently waited for the fruitful opportunity to begin the stalk as him and his doe slipped into a cut out of view. When I was about 100 yards away and in a big canyon I dropped my pack and swapped my boots for vibrams. I directed myself towards the landmark I picked (where buck was last when he dropped in cut) and I snuck in slowly, searching for his rack. All of a sudden, there it was, gleaming above the gray brush. I ranged him at 38 yards. I crouched down. After about 2 hours or more of excruciating pain from awkward positioning in the sun he stood but no shot was offered. As he slipped through the brush and out of sight I stood. Soon I heard him raking a tree and knew this was my moment. I remember sneaking around prickly pear and mesquites and hearing his rack against tree limbs so close, literally on the other side of a tree from me. I inched out and he was right there at 23 yards going apeshit on a bush. I waited for my opportunity and drew, sending my arrow deep. He died in less than 35 yards from the shot. However, I couldn't see him drop and was not 100% on the shot so I waited 2 hours to be sure! Looking back it's funny but I'd rather be safe than sorry!

Been sitting on this idea for a bit, well, since our public lands started to fall in the crosshairs more and more. It’s our land. It’s our kid’s land. It’s their kid’s land and so on. Once you bulldoze that land it will never be what it once was. Growing up in Southeastern Arizona I have seen the desert where I grew up hunting get leveled for cookie-cutter homes; for Wal-Marts. That’s land that used to hold giant Mule Deer, Whitetail, Javelina, Desert Tortoises, you name it. And that is occurring everywhere in our country.

I am by no means an expert and anything involving the outdoors will be a constant learning experience, one I’m excited to have until the day I die; however, the past couple years I’ve taken a more analytical approach to my shed hunting and wanted to share some things I’ve learned with my community. There’s a ton more to it than what I was able to fit in. I love this stuff so much! 🤙🦌
