Oceanside is home to hundreds of beloved small businesses. @jitterscoffeepub is a staple of our “downtown family”. It was a big honor to join @themasterbaker @jason_mraz Chef Felix and Coffee Sommelier Clayton for the Grand Re-Opening of Jitters.

There are lots of opportunities to get youth involved in the community at the Joe Balderrama Park Recreation Center! This past week KOCT stopped by and checked out some of the programs, including the recurring Monday Eastside Stories and a special group painting for Mexican Independence Day!

The programs aim at giving youth of the Eastside guidance from those who grew up in the same area, showcasing that many of Oceanside's community members and leaders have made it through adversity and that great things are possible! The @oceansidetheatrecompany has become a place where we can celebrate and protect Oceanside’s culture. Where we can dream about our shared tomorrow.

In town after town we see the arts and local theatre especially, struggling to survive the wholesale undermining of institutional support. OTC is fighting that back with grit and most importantly, with connection.

If you build a system for mass surveillance you will eventually be mass surveilled.

It is a complex issue. I am willing to be a continuous learner on it. To their credit, OPD leadership has been very open to providing information and briefings on it. I asked that we, as a council, take a breath and hold a full public hearing so everyone understands the safeguards or gaps in the deployment of FLOCK.
