I’m proud to announce that I secured $1 million in state funding for the @nclgbtqresourcecenter.

This is an investment in the health, safety, and dignity of LGBTQ+ residents and their families across North San Diego County.

The Resource Center provides services that many in our community rely on, including mental health and family counseling, substance use support, peer support groups, meals, legal assistance, and help securing transitional and permanent housing. These services help people find stability, belonging, and hope.

Every community deserves safe, welcoming spaces where people can access support and live authentically.

I am proud to have advocated for this funding and grateful to the North County LGBTQ Resource Center for its unwavering commitment to our neighbors.

They rarely get the shoutout they deserve, but our Oceanside Public Works team is amazing.

They get called in when things are getting wild and they do what needs to be done to keep our city safe. Next time you see em doing their thing, let them know how much you appreciate them. 🅾️💪🏼

Last week Vista City Council-member Corinna Contreras : @representvista called for the drafting of a 4-step ordinance to locate, and map existing Flock cameras, to regulate existing surveillance technology, and ban future ALPR technology.

More precisely, Corinna’s suggested ordinance:

1.) “To create a report of what surveillance technology the City currently uses, owns, or has access to, including: data sharing agreements with the sheriff, county, state or federal agencies.

2.) Draft an ordinance titled “Prohibition on city acquisition, use, and support of mass surveillance technology.”

3.) Create an independent inventory of all known ALPR / Mass surveillance cameras & technologies, their locations inside the city boundaries, & including areas outside of our jurisdiction, but that would still be within our sphere of influence. And explore adding a GIS-Layer of this, on a map that the public has access to.

4.) We need to complete a comparative briefing of what other cities, or counties have done, to create more control, oversight and restrictions on mass surveillance technologies.”
