last week was an overwhelming one, but an extraordinary one too. i flew to Mexico City (right after working pre-closing shifts at one of my dayjobs) to participate in @micmxiff_film_fest ‘s independent film market at Estudios Churubusco where my producer, Marian, and i had the opportunity to connect with amazing filmmakers and companies in Mexico. we had the opportunity, for 3 days, to pitch our film to different companies and build relationships to bring our projects to life. after the last month and a half, which has been an awfully surreal time rewriting my movie and navigating so many grieving feelings and heartache, i feel very grateful to my friends and family, and new collaborators for the genuine support and care. i cannot wait to bring my first feature to life, which comes from the most loving place in my soul— an ode to my favourite human who is now resting in peace. mi tía sarita, gracias por tu amor y por hacerme sentir que todo siempre va a estar bien. te admiro con toda el alma y te mando un besote y un apapacho profundo al cielo. and thank you to my awesome cousin Avril and the fam for being so amazing with me always and being amazing hosts during this chaotic time of learning how to pitch a movie in 3:30min pls i need some kspa asap. and thank you to my family for their love and support with all the non film related things we had to navigate as well. thank you for taking care of me in a loving and gentle way. i love you all. i cannot wait to continue bringing this baby to life: THE HOLLOW. i am super excited, chat:)

this summer turned out to be not what i expected— but it really put very valuable lessons into perspective for me. without going into detail, this has been a time where i’ve been learning the value of the word ‘kind-hearted’. and i’ve been lucky and blessed to experience this from family, friends, collaborators, and many strangers that have become friends from my hometown in Mexico as we were making art together. the first half of this year i worked very hard to go to Mexico and shoot my first feature film this summer— yet now i am coming home and find myself with the new challenge of rewriting it into its new version for challenges outside my sense of reasoning. that same week i arrived, i received my first professional award for my work directing and making my short doc “the cleaning lady”. what an amazing accomplishment and reminder to carry on and do what makes me happy. thank you to all my loved ones, and the ones i didn’t know i was loved by, for your support and your presence. i feel very aware and appreciative of what really matters, and as my fav lil guy would say— ‘it is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye’.

i think this FLAMES has been the most personal and vulnerable story i’ve written. it started as journal entries of me reflecting on my past experiences and chatting with the sensei (my therapist). through the process of writing and making this film, i’ve come to understand loving from a place of offering and letting go from a place of surrender. letting go from a place of surrender— i type it twice because that one is so tough to accept and it’s taken me a long time. to understand— whether it is romantic or platonic— to be open to release is an act of love (as long as it comes from a place of love not fear) is the kindest, most loving thing we can do for others an ourselves.

i keep wondering how much better this world would be if they thought psychology or emotions in school— oh how much nicer this world would be. how less afraid we would be to accept feeling. if only we talked about it more. let’s talk about it more :)

our baby FLAMES (@flames_shortfilm) is finally available to share with everyone (link in my bio). literally, my heart is so full of love and gratitude for everyone who lent me a hand, their time, a shoulder to cry on; for being here for and with me through this super personal and cathartic experience. FLAMES is a film i directed, wrote, an starred in alongside an amazingly kind team of crazy talented actors 🥹🫀 @siago.tantos and @valerieroselohman thank you guys for trusting my vision and being part of this film. i am so immensely grateful.

thank you to my amazing team of friends who jumped into this crazy journey with me. can’t wait to tell more stories with you all.

last post is dedicated to one of the things i love the most— creating art. here’s some bts and our premiere for my new short film “FLAMES”, which is one of the closest ones to my lil heart. thank you to all of these amazing friends and new friends (so many not in these photos) who say yes to my silly ideas and are the most amazing and collaborative artists. thank you from the bottom of my heart for trusting and building these ideas with me. here’s to more celebrations, to more projects, and more collaborations together! i can’t wait to be on y’all’s sets and projects creating more art with y’all 💛

one of the dearest realisations i’ve had in a while has been how one of my biggest investments in my 30 years of existence has been nurturing a loving relationship with my parents— ✨🩷my ultimate ratz🩷✨ which has been also quite a bit of a challenging journey to navigate at times. but i am so happy with the relationship and friendships we have with each other. talking through things, sitting in in the discomfort. so. much. crying. and. accountability. i am so very happy and thankful to have these babies as my parents:)

also sharing some photos with my nani because i’ve been super lucky to have the opportunity to spend quality time with my grandmother as we navigate life with alzheimer’s. i am grateful for all our walks, chats, coffee and tea times.

hello hello ig world <3 here are some special moments of the last few months. from being on set and producing a friend’s project, so spending quality time with so many people i love (and don’t have photos with, sorry!!), to nature and me trying to constantly balance work, creativity, and being present.

i think one of the most valuable things i’ve been reminded of this year is how love is literally the whole point. sometimes it feels surreal how simple things actually are. oh man, this is me writing this post right after having therapy lmao. cheers xx by @erickadealexander

i literally could not stop hugging that cute lil poster when i saw it at the village east by angelika theatre. we had the opportunity to screen there and at the IFC theatre, which was just a fucking crazy and awesome experience to have as an indie filmmaker and pretty much my first time in nyc (other than the 48hrs i spent there when i celebrated my fave and iconic cousin eloping<3). thank you to everyone who joined us for these special screenings and q&as. this experience has been a very humanising and humbling one; has really put into perspective what my priorities are and my role into fragmenting dynamics in my intimate relationships. also— has really brought up back to the surface how, indeed, every piece of art is political and a reflection of the values for which we stand for. thank you to everyone who has given us a space to share our voices <3 taken in IFC Center by @erickadealexander
