The exhibition features a collection of photographs documenting everyday life, people, and culture in El Salvador.

I’m incredibly grateful to the Embassy of El Salvador in Japan and Ambassador @diegoadalton for their support in making this exhibition possible, and to Ian from @arted.ly for believing in my work and helping bring this opportunity to life.

A big shoutout to @malecuellar, who created the featured artwork for Artober 2026! Some of her own work will also be on display at the exhibition, and I’m excited that we’ll both be representing El Salvador.

If you’re in Tokyo, I’d love to see you there!

Kinmokusei is my first photobook project. It documents Japan across seasons, from summer greens and rainfall to snow, cherry blossoms, and winter. It leans toward quieter moments, away from heavily touristed centers, focusing on everyday scenes and local atmosphere.

This project changed how I approach photography. It pushed me toward long-term storytelling and sustained observation instead of quick and isolated sets.

By the way, lots of people have been reaching out so happy to mention I’m currently working with some awesome people to hopefully make the book available more broadly. More details soon. 🤞🏼

I’ve been wanting to create something alongside other artists, designers, and people working in different creative mediums.

An excuse to meet people who inspire me, exchange ideas, step outside our usual ways of working, and see what happens when we bring our work together.

This is the first of those experiments.

The first person I wanted to collaborate with was my friend and artist @celinamorales.art .

We met when I commissioned her to draw a portrait of my family. I’ve admired her work for a long time, so when I started thinking about bringing photography and drawing together, she immediately came to mind.

We spent some time in her studio, talking about her work, experimenting, and taking photographs.

Celina began her artistic practice with hyperrealism, spending over three years working exclusively with graphite pencils and paper.

It’s a practice built around precision, patience, and control. Even the smallest movements are deliberate.

But eventually, she felt the need to explore the opposite: to loosen that control, introduce color, embrace spontaneity, and let intuition guide her work.

In a way, it’s also a reflection of her own life, learning to let go a little more.

Her recent drawings still carry traces of hyperrealism, but they’re becoming something different. More gestural, colorful, sensual, and expressive. She’s learning to trust her instincts rather than plan every mark on the paper.

She’s slowly discovering a new voice through the process.

For our collaboration, I took a portrait of Celina and incorporated elements of her own drawings into the photograph.

Then she took that same portrait and created a new drawing inspired by it.

We ended up with two pieces, each carrying a little of the other’s work. taken in El Salvador by @erickchevez

Suchitlán, almost 50 years apart.

This weekend I photographed the lake and some of the people who call it home. When I returned to my grandparents’ house in Suchitoto, I discovered photographs my grandfather had taken in the same place as the lake was being formed around 1976.

I never really knew my grandfather, but I grew up hearing how much we had in common. Finding his photographs and realizing we had both been drawn to documenting the same place felt like sharing something with him across time.

I only wish I could have shown him mine.

A note on the archive: these photographs were found in an album that belonged to my grandfather, Pepe Rivera, alongside photographs he took of our family and Suchitoto with his Canon rangefinder. We believe these were also taken by him around 1976, although the attribution and exact date can’t be confirmed with absolute certainty. taken in Suchitoto, El Salvador by @erickchevez
