Some things are felt before they are even known. For years, I’ve been naturally drawn to Nigerian music(afrobeats), fashion, artists, sports and culture, something about it always resonated with me on a deep level. Then, I recently took an ancestry test and discovered that almost 20% of my blood is Nigerian. It all makes sense now.

This Black History Month, I celebrate more than just history. I celebrate my heritage, my roots, my ancestry, my blood. With roots that span Mesoamerican, Andean, Scandinavian, Iberian, and Nigerian ancestry, I embrace the richness of my identity. As a proud Afro-Caribbean with both Puerto Rican and Nigerian heritage, the connection I’ve always felt wasn’t just admiration; it was a part of me all along. Blood remembers. Roots run deep. 🙏🏾 From Borikén to Naija, my culture is my power! ✊🏾🇵🇷🇳🇬

I’ve followed @dracorosa ‘s music since I was very young. The poetry, his haunting chords, the melancholic arrangements have always spoken straight to my soul.

But beyond the music one of the greatest things I’ve learned from him is that life will test you… sometimes through pain, health struggles, through moments where you feel pushed to your limits.

And in those moments, you still get to choose to fight.. to grow, and become a warrior. Which makes you a better version of yourself and gives you more to share.

Living with rheumatoid arthritis has been the hardest challenge of my life.

It’s not always visible. Most people see me smiling, moving, showing up… but they don’t see the chronic pain behind the smile, fatigue, the constant struggle, or the fear of how progressive this illness/inmune system disorder can be.

Invisible illness is heavy because it asks you to fight battles others can’t see. But even on the hardest days I remind myself: rest is strength, slowing down is courage, and surviving one more day is already a victory.

To anyone else living with an invisible chronic illness, I see you. You’re not weak for resting. You’re strong for continuing. Protect your peace, and remember: one day at a time, you’ve got this. 🙏🏾✨

I’ve faced discrimination multiple times as a disabled person, often because people aren’t fully aware of the laws that protect people with disabilities.
That’s why I created these slides: to help others with disabilities understand their rights, demand accessibility, and find support.
