Its here! ❇️ Please join us on Saturday, August 8, 7-10pm for the opening of Holos Gramma (Whole Picture), an exhibition of new holographic works by Eric Leiser // @ericleiser00, taking place in XINEMA’s Darkroom. This exhibition is accompanied by an expanded cinematic shadow puppet performance by Eric Leiser and XINEMA member Niloufar Samadi // @nilsamadi, outside XINEMA’s Fieldhouse at 9pm. Please note, the exhibition will only be open for the weekend. To schedule a viewing on Sunday, August 9, please email info@xinema.ca. Holos Gramma—a phrase coined by holography pioneer Dennis Gabor translating to “the whole picture”—considers how holography captures the immense amount of information contained within perceived reality. Through a site-specific installation, Eric Leiser will present new holographic assemblage works composed of both physical and captured hand-sculpted ceramics that mimic found and imagined organic forms. Inspired by the intersections of natural and scientific imagery, these arrangements mirror the hierarchies of the infinite and interstitial space between real and virtual structures in holography. Each hologram is composed of a Slavich laser-sensitive holographic film plate painted with emulsion-staining chemistry, then encoded with the objects’ three-dimensional information with laser light at a microscopic level. To accompany the exhibition, there will be an improvised, collaborative expanded cinema performance presented outside XINEMA’s Fieldhouse at 9pm on opening night. The performance will showcase live shadow puppetry, lit with looped 16mm projection and laser illuminated transmission holograms. Community-made shadow puppets, created in Leiser’s Shadow Puppetry workshop will be presented as part of the final performance. This presentation will activate the surrounding site through collective participation and ephemeral image-making—highlighting the intersections between holography, analogue cinema, sculpture, and performance; multiple facets of both Eric’s practice and broader unconventional cinematic forms. The multimedia installation Ethereal Grounds engages with the filmic rituals embedded within emotional rites of passage, regeneration, and transformation through an evolving dialogue between land-based narration, projection environments, and hand-drawn interventions. Save the date! 🗓️ April 25th – May 24th, 2026 Melting Walls (vol5): Ethereal Grounds – Eric Leiser 💐 Murmurcontemporary, Rue du Centre 12 B, 1820 Montreux. In this solo exhibition, Eric Leiser presents multiple forms of analog holography merged with sculptural practice. Working across film, video, sculpture, holography, animation, painting, text, and installation, Leiser approaches holographic sculpture with a cinematic sensibility, blurring boundaries between the real, the virtual, and interstitial temporal states. His work navigates infinite hierarchies within seemingly inanimate forms composed of light, foregrounding the tensions between perception, multidimensional form, and the viewer’s embodied experience. The exhibition centers on intimate relationships between time, low temperatures, and the strange physics and technologies of superconductivity, probing fundamental questions of animacy and the limits of human perception. It explores holography’s connection to memory - how the brain stores, activates, and reconstructs experience - through shifting luminous structures that hover between material and immaterial states. On cold winter days, subtle irregularities on glass surfaces alter the growth of ice crystals, generating fractal patterns. Because ice crystals nucleate in two dimensions on glass, the fractal dimension of window frost - an index of complexity - falls between one and two, offering an early morning reminder of nature’s intricate beauty. Leiser’s holography captures these liminal states, linking crystalline formation, time, cognition, and bone, and revealing the poetic thresholds between matter, light, and perception.
