Framing matters.
Even when the landscape is blurry.

‘Twas strolling on 135th for Harlem Day.
And had to snap this photo.

“Get a Final Call from the brother in the bow tie.”
Word to Latifah.
I’ve loved her my whole ass life.

NYC always feels like home.
Even when it’s not.
It was briefly, way back in the 1900’s.
Cuz I’m hella old.
Shout-out to the East River Houses and 1199.

I used to visit “the city” a lot as a kid tho.
Summers and school breaks.
Mad train rides.
Museums and MTA bus transfers.
Wild times on the BQE and in BK shadowing “Big Eric”.
Solo side missions as a teen I’ve lived to not tell anyone about.

“I’m from where little kids dream and fiend for fun.”

I admire childhood innocence because I can’t pretend like I didn’t get to enjoy it.
Sliding down firehouse poles with Woody.
Playing pickup ball with grown men before the age of 10.
Being free to dream.
Free to imagine.
Free to simply “think” there was a better future within reach.
Even if we couldn’t envision it.

I’m fast approaching a somber anniversary that I frankly don’t want to celebrate.
But we must persist.
Plus, soft eyes help you see shit better.
Word to Skyzoo.

I see exhaustion all around me.
I see the weary and pained faces of the sandwich generation.
Folks just tryna figure it out.
With barely any condiments.
To soften the burden.

There’s a tinge of survivor’s guilt that rears its head when least expected.
The guilt of making it.
Making it through high school.
Making it to and beyond 21.
Making it “out” the hood.
Making it to adulthood with integrity intact.
Making it to 40+.
Making it back to the hood.

Fat Joe recently asked Jadakiss if he was happy.
Jada’s hesitance and discomfort was telling.
Yet relatable AF.
Are we so scarred that everything can seem too good to be true?
Can it all be so simple?
When can we exhale, my nigga? by @ericmesteves

I got reminded to tell people about some of the stuff I'm up to and involved with. This Saturday (May 2nd), I am helping to organize TEDxRoxbury's fourth annual production and would love to see folks come out to hear these dynamic speakers and their amazing talks. Often, these stages don't look like our communities so we try to be very intentional. And if you can't make it, a little donation helps to offset production and facility costs to keep it as inexpensive and accessible as possible. Holla.

I did a thing.

As someone who has loved and dabbled in photography for 30+ years, I tried something new.

I answered a Call for Entries and submitted one of my photos for consideration.

It got accepted.

My submision, Park Street Blues, was taken in 2012.

The Griffin Museum presents its latest online exhibition, 𝘛𝘰𝘱𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘧, on view from March 1 – March 31, 2026.

𝘛𝘰𝘱𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘚𝘦𝘭𝘧 features works from 65 artists examining our multilayered connection to place through photographic portraiture.

Selected from over 240 global submissions, the works challenge, intertwine, and even mystify ideas of identity through location.

Together, they bring people into close proximity and friction with the cultural codes and personal mythologies that characterize our understanding of (a) place.
