Ok, I think I have finally recovered. 😂

I didn’t expect to be transported back to 1996 last weekend, but what a time.

Jay-Z’s music wasn’t just something I listened to. It was part of the soundtrack of growing up in New York. The Yankee fitteds, Timbs, jerseys, name brands... it really defined an era.

I got to relive all of that with friends I’ve known anywhere from 3 to 35 years, while somehow running into people from every chapter of my life. There’s something really special about realizing your oldest friends and your newest friends all belong in the same memories now.

That’s what I love about music. It doesn’t just bring back songs. It brings back places, seasons, and people you haven’t thought about in years.

And New York in the summer... it just hits different.

Three nights. Two concerts. Way too little sleep. My body is definitely reminding me that it is, in fact, 2026 and not 1996. 😂

And Sunday’s show... yes, it started FOUR HOURS LATE. Out at 3 AM. THEN we trekked through Harlem trying to find an Uber and didn’t get home until the sun was coming up.

Would I do it all over again?
Absolutely.

You just had to be there. ✨🖤🗽

our ancestors are remembered not only through the stories we tell, but through the songs we sing, the food we prepare, and the rituals we keep.

last week, we gathered to watch The Language You Cry In, a documentary that reminds us that memory can survive even when language is lost @justbook_ish 🖤

following the film, we were honored to be guided by cultural preservationists, artists and cultural leaders @eldermamalula @ife_franklin_slave_narrative and Bridgit Brown whose wisdom, storytelling, and lifelong commitment to safeguarding Black cultural traditions deepened our collective reflection on memory, lineage, and belonging.

deep gratitude to everyone who joined us. this series is expanding in joyful ways and I am inspired to keep building more spaces of connection and community.

Connecting with Our Ancestral Lineages is a cultural series led by Spirit and birthed from my heart. A space where food, storytelling, ritual, and community help us remember. ✨

A sunny Saturday spent inside Roxbury love! ☀️

Started the morning at the @roxburypoetryfestival, sharing space with fellow panelists @djtroyfrost and @reclaimroxbury whose work is deeply transformative, then headed to the Shaw-Roxbury Library for the Tiny “Circ” Desk Concert. Huge shout out to the organizers, curators, moderators, poets, panelists, performers, artists, attendees, and everyone whose care, presence (especially you, @dremephotographer 🫶🏾) and creativity made both gatherings possible. Gratitude to @ericmesteves for the invitation🌻.

One of Eric’s questions during the panel invited us to imagine a future Roxbury through all of our senses. Just minutes later, I was again immersed in the people, the artistry, the energy, and the shared experience of sowing + gathering that already flourishes here.

During our session, I shared my belief that Black geographies are living archives of imagination.

The rhythm of dreaming forward while staying deeply rooted in what’s here is one expression of what makes that true. 🌱
