I started learning Chadō, the way of Japanese tea! 🍵 Today was my first of a 6 month weekly okeiko intended for beginners. Even only after my first okeiko, I’m feeling so inspired by all the wisdom my teachers carry but also the other students’ curiosity to learn, to connect with themselves and Japan’s rich history, culture and practice mindfulness.

I love and feel so inspired by my teachers’ continuous commitment to practice, learn from chadō and apply it to every part of their lives. The way of tea is not simply about learning how to prepare a bowl of matcha but far more; the idea of valuing harmony, respect, purity, tranquility, the current moment and so much more. I imagine I will be able to explain things better with practice and time too.

Seeing my mother start 12 years ago has always inspired me. I am excited to embark on this journey to connect with those around me better, but also the history, the philosophy, the art, learn how to be present and live life with more intention, continue to be a better version of myself for myself and others, through practice.

本日から茶道のお稽古に通い始めました。茶道を通じて日本の精神性や日本独特の感性への理解を深め、一人間としても更に成長したいと思います。

一度のお稽古でも学びは沢山あり、とても豊かな体験だったので、これから学んでいく中でどんな景色が見えるようになるのか、心より楽しみです。まずは初心者向けの6ヶ月間、週一度のコースに励みますが、一回目でこんなに楽しかったので、その後も続けることになる気がします🤭まだまだこれからですが、成長の過程を大いに楽しみたいと思います。🍵🤍

先日は @biancaclinic でハイドラフェイシャルを。肌からすっきり💛

スキンケアをしっかりしていても、気になる毛穴の詰まりやゴワつきをケアしたくて余分な角質や詰まりを除去してくれるハイドラフェイシャルを受けにきたよ。

The other day I went to @biancaclinic to get a Hydrafacial treatment. I’m quite strict with my skincare regimen but still, sometimes I feel like my skin could use a little extra boost to clear things out. When I want a more rigorous cleaning, I love getting hydrafacial.

Today I visited @mataichinoshio Mataichi-no-Shio Kōbō Tottan in Itoshima. Their salt is packed with umami from the seaweed that grows in the ocean in this area. They directly transfer the seawater to the facility, then let it trickle down these bamboo branches, allowing the sea water to become even more concentrated from the sea breeze hitting the sea water in the process. They then boil the water with fire using wood that was to be discarded - from torn down houses. Aside from the delicious salt alone, you can try the salt with soft serve, pudding, fried potatoes and more. Definitely stop by when you go to Itoshima!

今日は糸島にある、またいちの塩「工房とったん」へ。海藻の旨みがギュッと詰まっていて美味しいお塩。今回は特別に製造工程を見せていただきました。海水を直接工房へ運び、竹の枝を伝らせ、海風を当て、旨みや濃度を更に濃くする。海水を加熱する際は解体された家の廃材の木材を使う、環境を配慮した工程。色々なお塩を購入できる他、お塩を使ったソフトクリームやプリンも食べることが出来て糸島の豊かな自然を五感で感じることができる最高の場所でした。みなさんも是非糸島に行くことがあれば行ってみて🧂

@mitorikoubou 🌾 I visited Mitori Koubou run by Mitori san, in Kumamoto prefecture. His rice is not only organic and pesticide free but he strongly believed in nature- positive way of life and farming. Nature positive is the idea of not simply restoring nature as you cultivate and farm but the idea of positively giving back to nature while farming. Kumamoto is unique because of the past volcanic eruptions which created a volcanic base in the ground which traps ground water - then smaller silica based gravel cleans this water and adds minerals to it. Check out Mitori san’s rice!

熊本県の実取耕房をお伺いさせていただきました。実取さんはネイチャーポジティブを大切にお米を作られている農家さんです。ネイチャーポジティブとは、自然に損失を与えないようにするだけでなく、ポジティブな影響を残す形で行動する考え方です。長い目で見ると、やはり自然にポジティブな形でないと生命は長生き出来ないんじゃないかなと私も感じました。貴重な知識とご経験を共有いただき、ありがとうございました。みなさんも是非素敵な活動、お仕事をされる実取さんのお米を食べてみてください🌾

Thank you Premium Japan Award for having me today. I had such a wonderful time learning about so many different individuals, projects and organizations that are all working towards preserving Japan’s rich culture. I truly felt that the common denominator was love for Japan but really, beyond that - love and celebration of life, community and more.
