Heading into week 2. Autumn creeping in on chilly morning feet. Great conversations with these smart, talented humans. @millayarts couldn't be more generous and accommodating. Getting work done and communing with nature here where the Hudson Valley meets the Berkshire foothills. Swipe to see @amy.brady.author's incredible photo of a hawk caught mid flight--she took the group shot, too, a multi-talent. by @erikforrestjackson

This barn dates back to the 1920s, ordered by Edna St. Vincent Millay via the Sears and Roebuck catalog and shipped in pieces by train. It has since been renovated and for the next month will host me and three other writers courtesy of the generous @millayarts crew. Bedrooms are downstairs and studios are located right above them. The grounds are stunning, with the goldenrod in full fire. And so much silence apart from the birdsong, rain and wind through the towering trees. The main building houses two composers and the chef-prepared dinners (!). Yes, we are so spoiled 😸 by @erikforrestjackson

Google is all in for Trump. We’re living in the absolute dumbest timeline.

In 2004, I interviewed Donald Trump about Broadway. He loved it. Saw Evita six times. Patti LuPone: “one of the great stage performances of all time.” And: “Wall Street may be tough, but the theater business is tougher.”

Twenty-two years later, as “theater kid” becomes the insult du jour in his political orbit, that old interview sure reads a little differently.

I wrote about it for The Atlantic. Gift link in bio. by @erikforrestjackson

📰 Nearly every day, I read a news story and think: Well, somebody is absolutely going to make that a _____________ (fill in "play," "musical," "movie," "series," "OnlyFans account," etc).

This August, while I’m in residence at the Center for the Arts of Homer (thank you @center4arthomer!), I've been entrusted with leading a workshop that starts with that sort of instinct--and hopefully makes it useful.

"Finding the Story Inside the Story" is a free, interactive workshop exploring how writers turn real-life events into plays, movies, musicals, and other dramatic creatures. We’ll look at recent news stories, pick one, and together build the foundation of an adaptation: choosing characters, defining stakes and structure, and facing the big question every writer eventually has to answer: What is this *actually* about?

All storytellers welcome. No writing or theatre experience needed. Strong opinions encouraged. 🗣

oh hey! My lil' love story book got some love:

@elleusa included Taylor & Travis: A Love Story Album in its roundup of the Best Taylor Swift–Inspired Gifts for Every Swiftie on Your List.

Big ups to Sarah Mayberry and editor extraordinaire @clairemilch for the kind feature. Thrilled to see this little keepsake scrapbook for young Swifties and fan families in such excellent company. Friendship bracelets for all 💞
