POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Something I haven't shared before. Last year in October I joined a team of world class highliners from around the world to help rig the new world record for the world's longest highline at 4km (2.5mi) long across the desert of Utah near Moab.

The project took 5 days culminating in @da_logster successfully crossing the line into the night under the full moon. Originally I was only supposed to come and document the project but quickly I became a member of the rigging team and my hands were on webbing just as much as on my camera.

I had the opportunity to write and help curate this story for @utahlifemag in the Aug/Sept print issue. Told through my own experience of the project and filled with unique characters and adventure.

Thanks to @da_logster for leading this project and for everyone on the team that made this project a reality, (see tags on each page). It was also my privilege to meet and spend time with the legendary Andy Lewis, who sadly passed away earlier this year, but who had helped create everything this sport is today.

Beyond grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the team and proud to finally put this story to page for readers to enjoy. by @erikmakic

Tilting and shifting. And that's just one of the lenses I used.

Plus I climbed the tower.

Gap the Gorge was a major success. See you again next year @royalgorgebridge

I went into the weekend with one question in mind. Why? Why this over anything else? As a non-highliner this question seemed simple enough, but after my first interview I realized that what drives these athletes, my friends, is much deeper.

At the 2026 Gap the Gorge event on the 4th of July weekend, I was invited to come hang out and help rig, enjoy and document the event. And I wanted to try something I hadn't done before. Video portraits with one unifying question. What makes you highlines? And why do you keep coming back to it?

Thank you @royalgorgebridge for putting on this amazing event. To @da_logster and @communityhighlines for making it all possible. To @slackenglund , @_islack_ and @proffventure for the great laughs, wise words and do keeping me stay safe on the cliff edges and helping me move past my fears to climb the bridge tower.

Thank you also to @namaste.nathan who I unfortunately was unable to interview.

Only 21 days to make your vote count for Governor of CO. The June 30th Primary is the deciding factor for this race.
Over the past year, I've had the privilege of volunteering alongside one of the most dedicated public servants I've ever met - Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser - and I am so proud to support him as he runs for Governor of Colorado. @philforcolorado
-
Phil is the real deal. I've marched alongside him in parades across the state, including the Denver Pride Parade, and was there at the Democratic State Assembly when he walked away with 90% of the delegate vote. That's not just a number - that's Coloradans who have seen what he's about and showing nearly unanimous support.
-
Here's the part that matters most right now: Colorado's Democratic primary is on June 30th - and for the governor's race, this IS the election.
-
Colorado is a reliably blue state, which means the Democratic nominee will be the heavy favorite heading into November. That makes YOUR primary vote the most powerful vote you will cast this cycle.
-
I've gotten to know Phil beyond the campaign trail, and every time I've brought up issues close to my heart, he didn't just nod along - he genuinely listened, asked questions, and wanted to hear my perspective as an everyday Coloradan. That's what a leader does. And that's exactly the kind of governor he's going to be.
-
He has traveled to all 64 counties across our state, showing up for everyday people - not just the big cities. He has spent his career fighting for us: taking on opioid manufacturers, standing up to corporate greed, protecting voting rights, and using the full power of his office to defend Coloradans' rights against overreach from Washington. He doesn't just talk about the issues - he goes to court over them.
-
Your vote is your voice in these crazy times. I fully support Phil Weiser for governor. Vote how you wish, but at least vote. Ballots have already been mailed in CO.
-
Leave Michael Bennett and his billionaire friends over in Washington and out of our Governor's office. Vote for Phil.

World's First! Highline spanning the Royal Gorge Bridge's towers near Cañon City, CO.
The team of world class highliners (who I now call my friends) set up this highline in partnership with @royalgorgebridge from July 18-20th this past weekend. The line had triple redundancies for safety, spanned nearly 1,000 ft in length and consisted of 20mm (0.7in) wide webbing to walk on.
The team put on multiple performances for the park's visitors. Explaining the sport, the athletes, the equipment and the skills. And showed off a few tricks for the fans as well.
The bridge stands 956ft above the gorge's floor where the mighty Arkansas River has carved its way through. With the highline at the top of the towers they were roughly 1,300ft above the river.
-
Thanks to the highline team for allowing me to hang out every day and for the park's hospitality providing me access.

A juvenile Stoat in Tabernash CO.
-
This is a Stoat, also known as an ermine (Mustela erminea), related to the weasel and otter. This juvenile (probably born this year) is only about 3-4 inches long, as you can see relative to the 2x4 wood seen in images 2, 3 and 4.
-
The Stoat, although wicked cute, is one of the most ruthless killers in the world. A full grown Stoat (7-13 inches long) can take down and kill a full grown mountain hare by tackling it and severing its spine with its teeth. Stoats are also known to live in the dens of prey it just killed, moving from den to den and not making their own. They have a bloodlust if you will, because they are known to kill as many prey (voles, chipmunks, mice, birds, etc.) as are available, regardless of how much food that is to eat. They might often only eat the brains of an animal and leave behind the rest.

Storm season in CO.
-
I've only ever had this opportunity twice. To photograph a severe lighting storm that was rather stationary. This storm was sitting above the Boulder area of CO and is seen here from Tabernash CO where there was no lighting or even rain at the time. Providing a very "outsiders" view into the situation.

By changing the cameras white balance periodically and positioning the camera on a sturdy tripod hooked up to an intervalometer, I was able to capture in camera around 90% of all the action, in total a few hundred images ranging from 2-10 seconds each.

This is a composite of around 118 images taken across 2 hours.

Thank you solar storm! It's amazing the intensity of the Aurora Borealis colors all the way down to 39°57' N.
I was skeptical at first when I read the news about the possibility of an Aurora in CO but around 11pm last night the show started to pick up and it didn't end until about 3am!

To the naked eye the green colors were the most visible and at times stripes of the red like a giant paint brush grazed across the sky. With my camera it only took a 3.2" exposure to gather enough light information and data to show the true intensity of the painted skies. by @erikmakic
