Never Let Me Go by @erinbirdart Exploring transformation through water as both material and metaphor, Erin's practice draws on her background as a first-generation Irish-American shaped by histories of silence and upheaval. She developed an experimental technique she calls waterprinting, submerging photographic prints so that water erodes and reshapes them into painterly abstraction. This process reflects the instability of memory, its ability to fracture, shift, and reforme, while opening a dialogue between the figurative and the abstract and exploring vulnerability, resilience, and the potential for renewal. That twenty years can feel dense and incredibly light at the same time reminds me I know nothing of time. 20 years of marriage has been a kind of labyrinth. Not mythic— a tangle of time, dense and fleeting all at once. I entered without knowing, thinking it was a path. At some point I realized it wasn’t. And then it turns on itself. The labyrinth doesn’t offer escape; it offers depth. With each turn you carry more of the other. There’s no map, only memory. The real intimacy is in that—getting lost together, and staying. This painting is from a photo of my two sisters and me. Time and distance had pulled us apart, and I tried to use the water to push us back together. The space between us stayed charged no matter how hard I forced the image. what collects between siblings and goes unsaid. I keep seeing the text on my younger sister’s t-shirt — a politics printed on a child, worn the way inheritance is worn: without consent. The title names the act. I pushed. The photograph pushed back. Pushed, 2026 182 × 123 cm Families edit their own record. Who appears. Who gets pushed together. What a child is dressed in. Those edits used to happen in albums. Drink of the land⁣ ⁣ I love to title my artwork, almost as much as I enjoy making the art. A lot of the time my title stems from my initial reference point for the artwork.
