POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
My sewing studio, the place where anything I imagine can come to life. I’ve been thinking about this little business a lot this summer. I find myself asking questions like: What’s the next thing? What direction am I even going in? Should I be doing more? Are jackets going to be the only thing you design inbetween client jobs? Why don’t you photograph your work more so you can share the process? How come you never open up about your professional background and how you came to do what you do? It is equally exhausting and the most rewarding to work for yourself and when I feel conflicted by these thoughts, it’s then I realize none of the above matters. Don’t think too much, just focus on the work as if one would before the online community came to be. Focus on the real community. There is nothng I love more than meeting and working with people in person.

Make an appointment and come by the studio in Barrio Viejo- let’s create something beautiful together. Whether it’s a custom design, restoring a vintage piece and giving it a new life, or simply achieving the perfect fit. Every and any piece can always be perfectly tailored to you.

Alongside my collections of custom jackets and linen robes, I specialize in custom wedding gowns, men’s suit tailoring, and custom-fit alterations. And soon, I’ll be looking forward to executing a brand new collection of jackets that will be debuted this fall/winter. And to my fellow community whether it be in the ol’ pueblo or online, thank you always for the continued support. 🦢 taken in Barrio Viejo by @erincox.design

Custom wedding blouse created from a traditional Indian sari.
Together, the client and I worked closely to honor the beauty of the original textile while translating it into a contemporary silhouette. The detachable pallu allows the piece to be worn with the dramatic, traditional drape or as a more simplified blouse on its own. by @erincox.design

Her Ritual: Erin Cox @erin_._cox

This feature is first in a series of interviews with women we admire, giving a window into their everyday rituals. (Lifestyle voyeurs, delight!)

🍊 the orange trees in her front yard are so fragrant, certain times of year, they perfume her whole block in barrio viejo.

👯‍♀️ she’s one of those women who introduces you to other women, and before you know it they’re your friends too.

🌵 she has an encyclopedic knowledge of tucson. a city she’s proud to call home, and one she’s helped shape.

🪡 i know her best as a tailor and fashion designer. her studio is full of fabric and art and treasures collected over the years. everything she touches becomes something else: fabric, food, a home, a handmade birthday card. all of it art in her hands.

🦀 she’s a double cancer, which means she can go deep with you in minutes. one conversation in and you’d swear you’ve known her for years. wisdom and whimsy in the same breath. she laughs easily. she knows her boundaries. she pays attention like it’s a practice.

🌊 this is a woman who lives into rituals not as rigid routines, but as a way of moving through a day to feel her best mentally, physically and creatively. we could all learn something from how erin does it.

Looking forward to this Sunday at @la_suprema_works for their first ever market- should be a gorgeous day in the Barrio!

I decided to throw my hat in the ring since I had some Thunderbird jackets in stock. Offering a very small run (only 18!) in both cropped and hip-length cuts. I know I say this repeatedly, but despite being constructed from blankets, the weave is loose and therefore allows airflow, making them far lighter than they look. They travel effortlessly and are perfectly suited for climate shifts.

Also, I’ve tried my hand at something new:
THUNDERBIRD CLUTCHES- trimmed in leather and lined in velvet with a brass magnetic closure that carries just enough.

Last run for a while- find your perfect THUNDERBIRD in cream, black, brown, grey, and red. taken in Barrio Viejo by @erincox.design

Where the Southwest Meets the Sky

What makes this garment so special is its loose weave, which keeps it cool and breathable while still offering warmth when the temperature drops. It’s truly the best of both worlds and perfect for this beautiful February weather, with warmer days and cooler evenings. No two are alike, each one especially made and truly unique.

All styles are ample, one-size designs that comfortably fit and drape nicely from XS to 2XL and available in 3 lengths:

Altitude (High Waist)
Horizon (Hip)
Latitude (Mid Thigh)

If you don’t see exactly what you’re looking for, you’re always welcome to join the list and design your own in your choice of color, size, and length.

Looking forward to being in the company of so many amazing artists and makers tonight at the

First jacket to kick off the new year. A true one of one, cut from a late-1960s tapestry and designed to channel the spirit of the decade- textural, soulful, and richly expressive. Available and ready to wear. DM to inquire. taken in Barrio Viejo by @erincox.design

2025 gave me an opportunity to grow into roles that align with my strengths and passions, including designing and producing jackets, teaching 1 on 1 classes, collaborating closely with clients; whether it be wedding gowns, tailored suits, or just simply achieving the precise fit. While I spent less time in the studio this year, l also had the opportunity to work with a couple of exceptional women as a personal assistant, providing support in interior design and home management.

Fashion and hospitality, along with working closely with people and offering thoughtful support, have long been among my strongest skills. As I approach 50 in the coming year, I feel confident in this understanding.
Community has always been important to me since moving downtown in the mid 90s, and I’m deeply grateful to still be an active part of it.

I’m hoping to be more active here in the coming year. I tend to share more on my personal account (@erin_._cox), where life imitates art and everything feels more organic. This space was originally created to bypass a website, though I may be changing that in the new year to make it easier to share what’s available in the studio. I didn’t get to everything I hoped for this year-especially another Thunderbird jacket show-but I’ll be out and about with them very soon.

Thank you for your continued trust and support.
Wishing you a happy and safe New Year. taken in Barrio Viejo by @erincox.design

I’ve been drawn to these velvet tapestries forever and have often wondered how they’d look reimagined as clothing. When @karolina.olivia came to me with her tapestry and the vision of a jacket, it was an absolute dream. I misunderstood the deadline and thought she needed it within 48 hours instead of a week but I wanted to tackle this project so badly (because when are you ever going to get the opportunity again) we made it come together. (and for the future, good to know a jacket can be made in under 48 hours) Getting the deer centered took some precision, but I think it turned out pretty sweet. Thank you, Karolina, this assignment was a great piece to close out the year! ⚡️🦌⚡️ taken in Barrio Viejo by @erincox.design

I’m always reminding clients that if there’s a will, there’s a way—especially when it comes to reworking the pieces we already own. Sometimes it’s about pulling something out of the closet that’s been overlooked for years and giving it a new purpose. Why not transform a piece so it becomes something we can truly wear, rather than letting it sit in the closet simply because it carries sentimental value?

This client’s gorgeous mink stole had been in the family forever, and instead of letting it hang and drape as it once did, we reshaped it. First, we restored every section of the ripped fur—a delicate, meticulous process, but entirely worth it if you’re committed to preserving the piece. By folding the side panels in and hand-stitching them securely to the back, it transformed into a kind of capelet / bolero. A completely new silhouette, but still rooted in its history.

That’s the beauty of altering your clothing: with a little persistence and the right guidance, you can almost always create the fit and feeling you imagined. taken in Barrio Viejo by @erincox.design

I have one wool-blend Meridian Bolero in the studio — a one-of-one with a distinctive moss green and white striped pattern. It’s a special piece I rarely make, and I’m hoping to have more in stock by mid-December or early in the new year. A unique piece, offered at a special price — don’t miss the chance to claim it. taken in Barrio Viejo by @erincox.design
