A quick preliminary sketch before I start on this next house portrait. I love the window details on this house and know they will be a fun feature in the final artwork.

I’ve been getting questions about slots for custom house portraits — unfortunately I don’t have any architectural slots right now and don’t expect to release any before the holidays (at least not for work to be completed before the holidays), as I already have a handful on my docket that I booked over the spring/summer.

Blocking in the basics for my next house portrait!
.
You might think a professional artist spends the bulk of her time making art. And maybe others do that, but as the years go by, I find it harder and harder to carve out focused art-making time. My hours quickly get sucked up by various other aspects of running my business, and it’s not easy to switch gears and create on demand in the small pockets of leftover time.
.
Alas, this afternoon I put my foot down, turned on some music, and managed to make some progress!

Exciting news, followers! The shop at the @nationalbuildingmuseum now carries some of my products!

If you’ve never been, the museum is really fantastic — quite possibly my favorite in the District — and the shop is so much fun to browse around. Lots of unique gifts, including many (but not nearly all) that are architecturally inspired. Prints now available in my shop!

This was a pen and watercolor painting of a cherry blossom tree that I did in the spring, and while the original sold at the Capitol Hill Art Walk last month, I saved scans to make these prints. They are Giclee fine art prints (as all of mine are), on Somerset Velvet paper, which has a slight texture to make it look more like the original. taken in Capitol Hill Neighborhood, Washington, DC by @erinthompsonstudio

Bricks and fences continue to inspire me. I love the autumnal feel of this one, spotted this morning on my run.
