🗣️OPEN NOW

✨An Indigenous Present✨, co-curated by @jeffrune and Jenelle Porter, is a thematic exhibition with works spanning 100 years by artists working in various modes of abstraction from across North America of Indigenous descent. It is NOT a survey of Indigenous art! The show includes new commissions and never-before-seen works, and artists you (should) know well and artists you will know well soon.

It has been an honor to work on this incredibly important exhibition with the curators, the immensely talented @_maxgruber, and all of the artists. See it @icaboston through March 8.

🗣️NEW & ON VIEW
These three portraits by @raniamatar document a young woman named Samira, a third-generation Arab-Palestinian refugee living in a refugee camp outside Beirut, over the course of sixteen years. Tracing her experiences as a stateless refugee, Samira is shown from childhood as a young girl surrounded by family within the camp to adulthood as a young woman outside the camp where the natural setting's sense of freedom is undercut by tangled rings of barbed wire.

You can see these photographs of Samira @icaboston through the end of the year in my exhibition "Portraits from the ICA Collection" where these three portraits open the show.

With an assignment like “Foreigners Everywhere”, artists and curators truly took on what it means to be or feel foreign even in the country where you were born. Indigeneity and legacies of colonialism were at center stage in many installations. Here are some highlights from some of the national pavilions I saw (I had more favorites, but not every pavilion photographed well so sorry if I missed your favorite):

1. United States🇺🇸
2. Denmark🇩🇰
3. Australia 🇦🇺
4. Netherlands🇳🇱
5. Spain🇪🇸
6. Nigeria🇳🇬
7. Mongolia🇲🇳
8. Zimbabwe🇿🇼

Due to a series of unfortunate events at the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024, I wasn't able to actually print and mail my holiday cards this year. But I want you all to know I thought of you and hopefully I'll have better luck getting my cards out next year❄️ taken in Boston, Massachusetts by @erkuml
