29 Ekim Cumhuriyet Bayramımız kutlu olsun! ❤️🇹🇷🎊 by @ermandivecenter

No boat needed- just walk in straight from the beach at Hapimag Sea Garden Resort, and this is what’s waiting a few meters out!

Nudibranchs, moray eels, octopus an more, all living right off our shore this season.

And this isn’t even all of it. Every dive turns up something new.

All pictures are taken from an actual beach dive from our resort, original and owned by Erman Dive Center.

Every nudibranch is a hermaphrodite, carrying both male and female organs at once. It has no shell as an adult, and its bold color pattern actually comes from its diet- it absorbs pigments from what it eats!

When threatened, it can gulp water and balloon to several times its normal size in seconds- its main defense since it’s a slow, clumsy swimmer otherwise!

The feathery “crown” is both its gills and its dinner plate, filtering plankton straight out of the water. If a fish nips it off, the worm can simply regrow a new one!

Starts life as a female and later changes into a male. They’re extremely loyal to one rock or cave for years, and divers who return to the same site often!

Has three hearts and blue-tinted blood! It can shift color and pattern almost instantly using skin cells called chromatophores, both to hide and to “talk” to other squid.

Has famously bad eyesight and hunts mostly by smell. The constant mouth-opening is mistaken for aggression is just how it breathes- pumping water over its gills.

Lives inside a self-made tube buried in the sand and can vanish into it in a split second if disturbed. It’s an animal, not a plant, despite the name- a close relative of coral and jellyfish!

They have three hearts and blue, copper-based blood. It can solve puzzles and change both color and skin texture in under a second- yet typically lives only 1-2 years.

Born with one eye on each side like a normal fish, then one eye actually migrates across the head during early development so both end up on the same side, letting it lie flat on the seabed!

Its nearly transparent body is pure camouflage against predators, and like all shrimp it has to molt its entire exoskeleton to grow, leaving it briefly soft and vulnerabl by @ermandivecenter

Another encounter with a master of disguise from a beach dive straight from our resort! 🐙🤍

Here’s a quick look at what makes the common octopus (Octopus vulgaris) so extraordinary:

“Master Shape Shifters”
Without a single bone in their bodies, they can squeeze through astonishingly tiny cervices, using specialized skin papillae and textures to melt completely into their surroundings.

“Incredible Eyes”
Their striking horizontal, slit-shapes pupils give them a wide field of vision, allowing them to survey their rocky dens with remarkable precision.

“Distributed Intelligence”
With two-thirds of their neurons located in their eight arms, each limb can taste, touch, and move with a high degree of independent autonomy.

Dive now to meet this wonderful creature! 🤍✨🐚

Encounters like this can happen just steps from the shore! This stunning European squid (Loligo vulgaris) was spotted right on a casual beach dive from our resort. 🏖️🤿

While they can roam down to depths of 500 meters, Loligo vulgaris frequently migrates into shallow coastal waters during warmer months to spawn, making nearshore encounters possible.

Have you ever locked eyes with a squid underwater? 🦑❤️
