It had to be Henry. 🎈
He’s been an old soul from the start. He is steady, curious, wise, dependable,
hilarious, humble and kind.

Oh, Henry! We love him so.

Childhood complete.
I pray it was as magical for him as it was for us.✨ by @erob77

Extraordinary ordinary 💫

I will forever be surprised when I glance back and don’t see a toddler with knees that smile. But this stage and accompanying style evolution has been so much more fun than I anticipated. by @erob77

It’s been a while since I shared why August 16 is a life-changing day for our family. ❤️‍🩹
(Long story, long version incoming.)

In addition to it being my maternal Grandmother’s (my original Eloise) birthday, it is also the day that, in 2011, I had a Fetal Cardiac Intervention with the hope of saving our unborn baby.

In July 2011 we were told, during our routine anatomy scan, that something was critically wrong with our baby’s heart. We went to the Maternal Fetal Medicine department where a fetal echo was done and our baby was diagnosed with “evolving hypoplastic left heart syndrome, severe aortic stenosis, an atrial septal defect and severe mitral regurgitation.” The prognosis was beyond grim and the options didn’t offer any hope. Bryan pushed for better options and we were told that there was “a group in Boston doing some experimental interventions with limited success.” We got a cd of our fetal echo and a list of all the defects, came home and googled the defects + “Boston pediatric cardiologist.”
Dr Tworetzky’s name popped up.
Bryan emailed him that evening. The following day Dr T replied and we sent him our echo file. Two weeks later we got the call that we were excellent candidates and could go to Boston to have the 143 fetal cardiac intervention.

The intervention was supposed to be August 17 but at the last minute was moved to the 16th and due to a family history of another very rare condition, instead of general anesthesia, I was given an epidural and was awake during the procedure. I lied when they asked if I could hear anything because I wanted them to speak freely in front of me. We were told from the outset that the odds were basically 1/3 chance it would work & save our baby’s left ventricle, 1/3 chance it would do nothing (which would mean likely death before or soon after birth) and 1/3 chance the procedure itself would cause death. They also said that there was a limit to how long they would stay in the baby’s heart. The odds sound awful but it was our only hope.

What gave it away?

The classic beach umbrellas or the prime location, thanks to a 7:30 AM set-up? 🥰

I knew it wasn’t a great idea.
And you likely know that too.

But at nine years old, she had her heart set on “wearing high heels in NYC” and I was not about to be the one to crush that dream. 👠

PS - Like a true city girl, she also had some sensible ballet flats in her bag. ☺️ by @erob77

A couple years ago my friend @melanybrobinson introduced me to the work of @wguidara and his mission to spread Unreasonable Hospitality in the world. On his Instagram account, Will asked for examples of real life unreasonable hospitality experiences and I shared one of ours.

Fast forward a year and Will’s team emailed asking if they could include my story - which is really George’s story - in their field guide. What an honor!

The Unreasonable Hospitality Field Guide arrived earlier this week and I am so happy for this special piece of George’s story to be a special piece of Will’s book. I hope you will all appreciate it. ❤️

Thank you, @wguidara for reminding us how important it is to truly people. by @erob77

This week I was introduced to Her Future Coalition. (@herfuturecoalition)

This organization works with local, trusted partners in India, Kenya and Nepal to rescue young girls from FGM, child marriage and child pregnancy.

While the coalition cannot fully restore everything that has been taken from the girls, they CAN give them the ability to feel safe as children and an education.

It has been a while since we had a collective love bomb and I think it’s time.

Please see stories for details on how you can help in under two minutes.

Where we can make a difference.

We must. ❤️ by @erob77

Mornings would be a lot more stressful without Henry’s self-imposed “uniform.”

And I appreciate that he likes what he likes. 🐳
