This is what photographing little kids actually looks like. 💁🏼‍♀️ One minute they’re doing exactly what you asked, and the next someone is crawling away, someone is laughing, and someone has decided we’re done. And then somehow, we get the pretty one too. 😉

Part 2 of 2. 1-5) Portobello Market. A delight. And whenever you get overwhelmed by the crowds, you can just pop into a shop for an ice cream or coffee. 6) Dennis Severs’ House. I don’t love that I’m giving a lot of things bad reviews. I have heard so many good things about this place and in the right context it would be magical. But when we went there were about 1-2 staff per room watching everyone and reminding us when it closed and not to touch it really took you out the moment. 7) If you travel with Elisabeth you have to accept that she’s a children’s clothing celebrity and people approach her. This fan was lovely. 8- 9) E & A flew home and I was sad. Pentreath & Hall for some carrot candles and prints. 10-13) the Portrait Gallery. Design nerds! Did you know that Portrait of Frederick Burnaby by James Tissot was the late great Min Hogg’s favorite painting? She loved how easy his posture is, that cigarette held aside so he can make his point, the faded chintz on the sofa, etc. Now I want a print, don’t you @lisaborgnesgiramonti ?! 💗 14-15) Castle’s Pie & Mash & Eels. There were definitely some proper Cockneys having lunch there. 16) My favorite souvenir - a painting of Andi & Elisabeth and me from another era. A biscuit tin from 50’s of three girlfriends doing a bit of sightseeing in England.

I know I’m not the only one with concerns! . . . As a parent of teen, one of my biggest concerns will always be social and Internet safety. Having a child born in a digital world does not always mean you strip them of the tools that they are using classrooms banks and other settings that have just become a part of the world . Equipping them with the right information, and being educated yourself is critically important! I’m glad that I was able to gain new insights by attending Meta’s @meta screen smart event with @instagram . Here are a few of the things that really resonated with me All users under 18 are automatically placed into Teen Accounts which makes their accounts private by default. We have all witnessed or experienced those messages that are disrespectful and can be out of context. I love the anti-bullying tech that filters unkind or unwanted comments. We have all been there in those doomscroll moments, and I love that there is a way to protect their mind, their focus, and their emotional well-being . Daily time limit reminders kick in after 60 minutes of use. I absolutely love the automatic “sleep mode” from 10pm-7am that silences messages and notifications. Another built-in feature that I appreciate is protective settings that are automatically baked in and cannot be defaulted, neither can parental settings be defaulted without a a parents approval, and this can only be done going through verification. I love that there was space for individual and collective conversations with so many local moms. As a mom of teens, navigating social media is one of those parts of parenting I’m still learning right alongside them. ❤️ I was so thankful to be invited to @instagram’s Screen Smart event here in Charleston and left with SO much helpful information. A few things that really stood out to me: Teen Accounts have built-in protections around who can contact teens and the content they see, and teens under 16 need a parent’s permission to make those protections less strict. I also learned more about how the Teen Account experience is inspired by 13+ movie-rating criteria and parent feedback, plus the tools and insights available to parents through Family Center. But one of my biggest takeaways was that while these tools are so helpful, the conversations we’re having with our kids matter too. ❤️ I’m really glad I had the opportunity to learn more because this is VERY relevant in our house right now! So thankful to have been invited by @instagram to spend the morning learning more about something that is VERY relevant in our house right now… teens + social media. I learned SO much from the speakers, the Instagram team and all of the other moms in the room. So many good conversations, things I didn’t know and lots of takeaways I’m excited to bring home to my own family. I honestly loved this event and am so grateful I got to be a part of it! My 5-year-old walked into the backyard yesterday and asked the nice gentleman cleaning the pool: “Do you want a beer? My dad has some.” 😳 She didn’t say hello. She didn’t introduce herself. Just waddled right out there and offered the man a cold beer. The sweet pool man declined and tried to stifle a laugh, but goodness — what an interesting way to kick off the summer. I wish you could have seen his face. Props to Millie for her southern hospitality….I guess? 🫣 Another (and more PC) way to kick off the summer? An underwater #DiveIn photoshoot with my brilliant friend @leighwebber! 💦 Leigh has a limited number of slots left for photo sessions this summer; go snag one ASAP before they are gone! These underwater photos bring me SO much joy (almost as much joy as Millie offering a 60-year-old man a beer) and I will treasure them forever. No one seems to capture the fleeting magic of childhood summertime quite like Leigh. ✨🏊‍♀️✨ So everyone go book a @leighwebber.art #DiveIn session ASAP! My pre-k daughter might even come out to offer you a cold beer. 🍺😂

Most people think underwater photography is about the camera. It is not. It is about the light coming through the surface and how it bends around a face. June gives me the angle I want: high sun, clear water, soft refraction. October cannot replicate this. Neither can March. This is why DIVE IN sessions are summer only. 3 newly opened spots remain for June. Link in bio.
