This spring, ERS returns to The Public Theater with PHIL, a staging of George Saunders’ witty, absurd, and frighteningly timely novella about a despotic populist leader in the tiny country of Outer Horner and its troubled relationship with the even tinier country of Inner Horner. ⚙️

ERS’s award-winning approach to staging the written word brings Saunders’ brilliant work to life.

Performances run May 25 - June 27 in Martinson Hall.

Tickets go on sale in early 2027. Stay tuned for more information about ticket on-sale dates and the production at the link in our bio! by @erstheater

18 PRODUCTIONS, ONE LANDMARK SEASON AT THE PUBLIC!

We’re thrilled to announce new productions and programming coming to The Public this spring and beyond, bringing your 26–27 season to 18 productions, one of the largest in The Public’s history!

Pulitzer Prize finalist Nathan Englander’s WHAT WE TALK ABOUT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT ANNE FRANK makes its New York premiere, directed by Tony Award winner Patrick Marber. MEET ME AT THE END OF THE WORLD, the acclaimed rock musical from Jesse Malin and Wilder L. Ludwig, comes to The Public. And ERS returns with the world premiere of PHIL, based on the book by George Saunders.

There’s even more downtown, with the joint world premiere of Caryl Churchill’s FREE pop-up play TRIUMPH, the new documentary play THE SURGE (produced in assoc. with @guthrietheater) from Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen, and WHAT’S PAST IS PROLOGUE, a new reading series featuring works by Susan Glaspell, Richard Nelson, and Calamity West.

These newly announced projects join an incredible 26–27 season that already includes THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, GOOD TIME CHARLIE, WE’LL SEE, THE VERGE, and more!

And that’s not all: our Summer 2027 lineup was also announced TODAY! ☀️🌳 Check out our profile or visit thepublic.nyc/season to see what’s coming to The Delacorte and across all five boroughs.

Happy Bloomsday from ERS!

122 years ago today, Leopold Bloom embarked on his day-long odyssey throughout the streets of Dublin. Celebrate with some burgundy, a cheese sandwich (Gorgonzola, if you have it), and a romp about town!

All of us at Elevator Repair Service mourn the tragic passing of Dito Van Reigersberg. Dito, a founding member of Pig Iron Theatre and the creator of truly legendary drag sensation, Martha Graham Cracker, was a tremendous talent and a beautiful human being. His contributions to theater and performance will be felt for generations to come. Our hearts go out to his husband and family and to our friends at Pig Iron and his Philadelphia theater family. by @erstheater

Imagine you are sitting in the Cambridge audience. It's 1965. You hear arguments from 60 years ago.
In 2026, with the convergence of struggles across the continent, these arguments will land differently.
You may have read Baldwin's essays. Or you may never have opened a page. Either way, nothing can prepare you for Baldwin the debater: the preacher's rhythm, the precise fury and the calm that comes at a great cost.

Here, Elevator Repair Service once again go beyond merely quoting words, bringing them to thrilling life in the present and challenging a country that whitewashes its history.
