Live Chat train left the station a couple days ago on my Substack “Asshole And The City”. That’d be this past He-Yump Day, when the Knicks overcame Trump’s - the biggest Asshole And The City - bullshit of showing up to Game 3 and won Game 4 in truly stunningly jaw dripping (not fixing that spelling error) fashion. This week is another live chat, with the Otis Elevator Company, about the New York theater company Elevator Repair Service. And it’s the first paywalled post, which from here is the aim. Just $5/month, $50/year, or Glounders (Glaser Founders) can toggle the price and go big! It’s an infuriating time, so why not support some of your favorite Creative Comedy Cuties directly! Link to Asshole And The City in my bio, and thanks to any and all who subscribe at any level!

BEAT Festival began with a simple idea: that a city could become a stage.

Across Brooklyn, performances, openings, encounters, and gatherings unfolded in places people already thought they knew — museums, libraries, streets, neighborhoods, rooms, and thresholds.

At Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Public Library, Green-Wood and beyond, the work was not only about presenting performance. It was about changing the way people moved through the city, through cultural spaces, and toward one another.

The opening nights were never just receptions. They were live social experiences: part celebration, part performance, part invitation into the world of the festival.

That question still drives much of my work:

What happens when people stop attending an event and begin entering one?

Imagine you are sitting in the Cambridge audience. It's 1965. You hear arguments from 60 years ago.
In 2026, with the convergence of struggles across the continent, these arguments will land differently.
You may have read Baldwin's essays. Or you may never have opened a page. Either way, nothing can prepare you for Baldwin the debater: the preacher's rhythm, the precise fury and the calm that comes at a great cost.

Here, Elevator Repair Service once again go beyond merely quoting words, bringing them to thrilling life in the present and challenging a country that whitewashes its history.
