🚀 The 12th edition of the @coimbraspacesummerschool brought together 41 participants from 17 nationalities to explore the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of lunar exploration.

👉 Inspired by the Artemis II mission, the initiative challenged participants to work in teams and develop innovative solutions across 8 sectors of an emerging lunar economy, from transportation and energy to health, resources, and lunar society.

🛰️ For the first time, the @coimbraspacesummerschool also extended into Pampilhosa da Serra, offering participants the opportunity to visit PASO – Pampilhosa da Serra Space Observatory and to take part in a night of remote sky observation, combining space science, radio technologies, and hands-on experimentation.

🏆 The edition concluded with a business ideas competition: Team Selene (Resources & Manufacturing) took first place, with Team Lunavit (Infrastructure & Habitats) receiving an honourable mention.

🤝 Organised by @institutopedronunes (IPN), through the @esabicentro programme, in partnership with the @observatoriodecoimbra , the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree in Planetary Geosciences – @geoplanet_emjm , and the @centro.natureza, the @coimbraspacesummerschool promotes learning, collaboration, and the development of new ideas for the space sector.

🛰️➡️🌍 In the space economy, startups are generally divided into two main categories: Upstream and Downstream. Which one is yours?

🚀 UPSTREAM (Building for Space): Developing the technologies that enable space missions. Examples include satellite hardware, propulsion systems, launch vehicles, sensors, and optical systems.

🌍 DOWNSTREAM (Bringing Space to Earth): Using satellite data, signals, and space technologies to create applications on Earth. Examples include precision agriculture, maritime monitoring, navigation services, disaster management, and climate analytics.

💡 The best part? ESA BIC Centro supports both. Whether you’re building technologies for space or creating innovative applications powered by space data or assets, we’re here to help you launch, grow and scale.
