🚀 The final day of the Coimbra Space Summer School 2026 brought its conclusion.

Before the pitches, participants travelled to PASO to explore the critical role of ground-based infrastructures in the New Space era, following a keynote by Rafael Caldeirinha from the Instituto de Telecomunicações and a visit to its telescopes, radars and space surveillance facilities.

👩‍🚀 Then came the moment everyone had been working towards: the pitch session.

Across three days, participants had explored the technological, economic and human challenges of establishing a permanent presence around the Moon. They worked in teams, received mentoring, developed value propositions and transformed ambitious questions into concrete business ideas.

The programme concluded with Ignacio A. Reyes from Dunedain Space, who shared insights into the journey from scientist to space entrepreneur, before the final Award Ceremony.

🏆 Congrats Selene on the big win!

The Coimbra Space Summer School 2026 may be over, but the ideas developed here are only the beginning.

🚀 After two days of exploring what it takes to build a sustainable human presence around the Moon, the teams reached the final stage.

The day began at PASO, where participants joined Rafael Caldeirinha from the Instituto de Telecomunicações for a keynote on the critical role of ground-based infrastructures in the New Space era.
They then went behind the scenes at PASO, exploring its telescopes, radars and space surveillance capabilities.

Back at Pampilhosa Business Center, it was time to pitch. Ideas were presented. Questions were answered. Solutions were challenged. And three days of teamwork, mentoring and learning came together in each team’s final proposal.

The programme closed with a keynote by Ignacio A. Reyes from Dunedain Space on how a scientist can become a space entrepreneur, followed by the Award Ceremony.

And just like that, the Coimbra Space Summer School 2026 comes to an end. 🌌

🛰️ On Day 2 of the Coimbra Space Summer School 2026, the focus shifted from exploring the challenges of lunar exploration to building and communicating solutions.

🌕 Through pitching training, mentoring and intensive teamwork, the participants continued developing their ideas for the Lunar Economy Challenge, considering the industries, services and technologies that could support a permanent human presence around theMoon.

🧑🏻‍🚀 The day also brought a strong focus on the human dimension of space exploration.

🛰️ Pedro Marques-Quinteiro explored performance and teamwork in isolated, confined and extreme environments, while Ricardo Gafeira addressed space weather and its impact on crewed missions. Two perspectives that highlight how resilience will be essentialfor humanity’s next chapter in space.

🌌 And then, the mission moved beyond Coimbra. After arriving in Pampilhosa da Serra, participants came together for an Interstellar Dinner before ending the day under one of Portugal’s darkest skies.

🚀 Day 2 of the Coimbra Space Summer School 2026 was all about turning ideas into stronger solutions.

The morning started with a warm-up quiz before participants moved into “How to Pitch”, a session focused on communicating ideas clearly and convincingly.

🌕 Then came hours of teamwork and mentoring, as the teams continued developing their answers to the Lunar Economy Challenge.

🧑🏻‍🚀 Pedro Marques-Quinteiro from Universidade Lusófona explored performance and teamwork in isolated, confined and extreme environments, while Ricardo Gafeira from the University of Coimbra looked at the impact of space weather on crewed space missions.

🌌 With new insights and plenty of teamwork, the teams then headed to Pampilhosa da Serra.

Tomorrow, the ideas take centre stage.

🌕 The first day of the Coimbra Space Summer School 2026 brought participants together at the Geophysical and Astronomical Observatory of Coimbra to explore the challenges of building a sustainable human presence around the Moon.

🌌 From understanding how space exploration missions are designed, to discovering Portugal’s role in the space sector and exploring lunar metallic and volatile resources, the day was all about turning ambitious questions into concrete ideas.

🚀 The teams also took their first steps into the Lunar Economy Challenge, combining teamwork, mentoring and different perspectives to imagine the industries, technologies and services that could shape the next chapter of human space exploration.

🔭 And, after a full day of ideas and collaboration, there was still time to look to the skies: an Astro-Dinner, astronomical observation and an Astro Q&A brought the first day to a close.

And so, the mission begins. 🌕

👨🏻‍🚀 The first day of the Coimbra Space Summer School 2026 brought together students, researchers and space enthusiasts to start tackling one ambitious question: What will it take to build a sustainable human presence around the Moon?

🚀 From learning how space exploration missions are designed with Sabrina Carpy, to exploring the path From Portugal to Space with Pedro Coimbra, and diving into lunar metallic and volatile resources with John Pereira II, participants started turning challenges into ideas.

🌌 Between teamwork and mentoring the teams began shaping the industries, technologies and services that could support humanity’s next chapter in space.

And the day ended looking up. ✨

🔭 An Astro-Dinner and an astronomical observation at the Geophysical and Astronomical Observatory of Coimbra brought everyone together under the night sky.

One day down. The mission has only just begun. 🌝
