Grenada raised me.
The water carried me.

From a 7-year-old in Westerhall to a lane in London, every stop taught me something about what the body can take, and what it needs to keep going.

These days I’m less interested in going fast and more interested in going far. I help people who love training stay in the game for the long haul.

Let’s take it from the top.

I’m Esau Simpson.
A chiropractor and proud Grenadian, currently based in NY.
I’m a proud uncle, an athlete at my core, and a swimmer by nature.
(Once a swimmer always a swimmer 🏊🏾‍♂️ . Hence the play on the surname, Swimson)
I’ve traveled the world for my sport and proudly competed at the London 2012 Olympic games (Respect The Nutmeg🇬🇩)

Like many athletes, I’ve come across my fair share of injuries over the years. Navigating them was difficult but I took inspiration from my Athletic Trainers, Sports Docs, and Chiros that were key to my recovery and performance.👨🏾‍⚕️

I love coaching.

I’ve trained NFL combine prospects, NHL players, professional swimmers, track runners, and countless other athletes.
I’ve worked with aunties, uncles, cousins, bosses, the middle man, the little man and soon to be, you.

In athletics and even now in this phase of life, we’re always on the go. Whether it’s for business or pleasure, it’s often difficult to navigate pain and physical activity in a new and changing environment.

I know what it’s like to be away for a long period and feel like an injury or fitness is disturbing an adventure.

I believe that no matter where you are in this world, you should be able to conquer your injuries and enjoy your favorite activities. You may spend your time working from home, commuting 2+ hours a day, traveling as a digital nomad, or simply working away from the place you love. Wherever you are, you deserve to be the best version of yourself.

I provide a remote injury management and performance coaching service to discover the best version of you no matter your location.

With that being said, it’s nice to meet you (again).

Let’s get to work. DM me “👊🏾” if you’re ready to step into the best version of yourself

You deserve more than “rest and see how it feels.”

You deserve a plan that builds you up to more than you can imagine yourself to be. by @esauswimson.dc

Even when I have a flare-up, I’m unstoppable. I’m in that mode right now.

Here’s the lineup:
Monday upper body strength. Tuesday run. Wednesday lower body strength. Thursday run. Friday full body + dynamic. Saturday run.

No secret program. No crazy sessions. Just showing up every week and building slowly. by @esauswimson.dc

Here’s our version of a medical progress note* to @ktdabrowski & @esauswimson.dc who over at @oldbullathletics who I’m lucky enough to share @helenkentnicoll’s rehab & training with.

🙌🏼Meet Helen. Helen is my inspiration because she does everything I wish I could get my own mother to do.

😅What she said to me one day, I still haven’t forgotten… (cue the quote from the opening clip)

📊Now it hasn’t been smooth sailing and we’ve had a few set-backs and road-bumps along the way… but we haven’t let that stop us.

🫱🏻‍🫲🏼Shoutout to @ktdabrowski & @esauswimson.dc for the amazing care you provide and for making sharing a client so fun and easy.

Eccentric overload is one of my go-to techniques for building a stronger improving strength, especially in a pull-up.

Research suggests we’re stronger lowering a weight than lifting it, so we load the lowering phase.

Shimmy up to the top with my legs, then lower as slowly as I can with more weight than I could pull.

That strength carries over to the full pull-up, and for a lot of people it’s what breaks a plateau they’ve been stuck on.

How I run it: weight belt on, 3 sets of 3, as slow as I can control, down to straight arms.

Worth knowing: expect more soreness the first time (I learned this the hard way). It usually settles after a session or two, so start lighter than you think.

Save this for your next pull day.

The old advice was rest it out🚫. Most current guidelines say the opposite: stay active, keep it gentle, and keep living.

Not gonna lie, A flare-up feels scary, but it’s usually your back being sensitive, not damaged.

Give it movement, give it time⏱️, and bring the load back gradually.

Let me if it helps 👊🏾

Move in different ways.
Move it often.

Here’s the deal. Most people think healthy hips mean stretching more. In my experience, your hips would feel AMAZING with these three things.

1. Explore your range. I use hip CARs. Slow, controlled circles that take the joint to the edges of what it can do, on purpose.

2. Move in multiple planes. Cossack squats are my go-to (seen Bruce Lee do some crazy drops here) Your hips rotate and go side to side, not just forward and back. If your training never leaves that one lane, a lot of your range goes unused.

3. Load them up. Heavy dumbbell RDLs. Range you can’t control under load doesn’t help you much. Getting strong in that range is what makes it yours. Own that shit

No single exercise fixes everything. This is just how I give my own hips, and my clients’ hips, more options.

Which one’s missing from your training right now?

Don’t run from the strength training (😏)

Being able to pick up and go whenever I want, however I want, is one of the things I value most about my body.

If I want to run a half marathon, I can do that. Simple.
If I want a down and ‘dutty’ HIIT session, I can do that.
If I want to hang with the top dogs or SheHulks and lift heavy, I’m outside!

My training has to reflect that. Right now I’m running about 25 miles a week and lifting a little more than usual. The goal is to build general ability and enjoy every run I’m on.

A peaceful balance of organized discomfort 🧘🏾‍♂️

What’s your training built for right now?

Your prep doesn’t need 15 minutes to earn its keep.

This is how I kick off my upper strength day

1. Seated supported DB shoulder external rotation
2. Single-arm plank rotations
3. 3 building sets: 8, 5, 3 reps, adding weight each round

Simple, quick, and it gets my system firing before my hardest effort of the day, which is usually right up front.

My coach knows this is how I like it, so we keep it simple across the board.

Which one of these are you stealing for your next upper day?
