BETA/ARC REVIEW
There’s such a bittersweet feeling that comes with saying goodbye to characters you’ve watched grow throughout an entire series. It’s hard to believe this series is finally over. Honestly, I can’t imagine saying goodbye to these amazing characters.
This was the final act—the fight for it all. We finally got to see whether every ally, every sacrifice, and every move made on the chessboard would lead to checkmate or whether they’d lose everything they’d worked so hard for.
The new romantic developments and, of course, the spicy scenes were, as always, some of my favorite parts. I love it whenever the big bed makes an appearance (sue me for enjoying it ). There’s genuinely never a dull moment with these characters.
Ryujii’s development was one of my favorites. He was easily one of the funniest and most unpredictable characters, and I loved watching him grow while still staying true to all the characteristics that made him so entertaining in the first place. Seeing him learn to share and be shared was such a fun part of his journey.
Obi’s development was another favorite of mine. His characteristics were captured so wonderfully, and I loved seeing how his journey unfolded throughout the story.
And then there’s Max. The entire truth finally coming to light was absolutely worth the wait. Deep down, strangely, I’m actually happy everything happened the way it did.
I’m so glad Leona got her happy ending with all her men. She deserved every bit of it.
And now… Chiara and Enzo. Because after everything we’ve seen, there is absolutely NO way I’m not finding out their story next.

This release and this book were definitely something. Every time @ksparrowauthor releases a new book, she somehow manages to bring a completely different spin to things, and this one was no exception.
For lovers of monster romance and dark romance, this one is definitely worth checking out.

An ex-cult member’s paranoid ramblings.
An eye for an eye for an eye…
Four centuries in the body of a monster—pillaging, eating, killing, and trying to satisfy a hunger that never seems to go away.
Do you know what that does to a man, Fontaine? It doesn’t just break a part of him—it breaks everything.
You did this to me. It’s only right that you know what it’s like to have a body that fails you, a mind that remembers nothing but pain.
You will experience the torment when your body changes for me. I will drag you under until you see no light in sight. Monsters like me are solitary, but you will become my mate.
The descent is terrifying, but if it’s not my esca that breaks you, it will be my hands. No matter how badly you want to escape, you’re trapped here with me, in these darkest depths.

I honestly LOVED this. I don’t know if it was the spice, the tension, or just the whole taboo feeling of it all, but I ate this book UP.
Everest definitely got on my nerves in the beginning with the whole possession shit, but after a while, I started to understand where he was coming from. And then he finally started realizing that they needed her just as much as he needed her. Once he learned how to share? LORD.
The way Harden was healing and learning to face the grief and trauma left behind by his abuser was really well written. And the bi-awakening between him and Griffin? Actually so heartwarming. I love them together so much. Honestly, I would rush through the other POVs just to get back to theirs because they were PURE perfection.
Aurora, girl… you come from a rich family, your brother is a famous-ass hockey player, and you think having a stalker is no big deal??? PLEASE.
I’m a big fan of taboo and why-choose romance, so this book was basically Viagra for my soul. I swear I was high on happiness the entire time.
Honestly, after this, I’m even more excited for Caden’s story. Bring it on.

HAPPY RELEASE DAY🎉
I remember when I first found this series. It was still incomplete with only two books out, and I had just finished rereading my favorite why-choose series, desperately looking for something to give me that same high. Then I saw a TikTok about this series and it sounded insanely familiar to an anime I had just finished, so obviously I jumped right in.

Only to realize one of the main characters was Nigerian.

And not a side character. An ACTUAL main character and love interest. 🥹

I felt so seen. Nigerians and Africans are so often villainized or reduced to stereotypes in stories, so seeing a Nigerian character be loved, desired, and central to the story meant more to me than I can explain.

I ended up tagging Rachel on Threads, which somehow turned into the most amazing friendship/work relationship. Every time she DMs me with some insane plot idea, I get so giggly, and seeing how much she values and incorporates my input makes me so proud. 🥹

And one thing I LOVE about this series is that every character stays so unapologetically themselves—even in the smexy scenes. Their personalities never get watered down just to make the romance work, and THAT is hard to do in why-choose.

I’m so proud of Rachel and so glad I took a chance on this series all those books ago. What started as me looking for my next obsession became something genuinely important to me💜

“THE BRAVEST THING I’VE DONE IS LIVE WHEN I WANTED TO DIE SO BADLY.”🤍

September is Suicide Prevention Month, and this is something that will always be deeply important to me.

I’ve spoken before about my own experience with suicidal thoughts and attempts, and I don’t take lightly the fact that I’m still here to tell my story.

Books have always been one of the places I go when life feels too loud. They’ve given me somewhere to escape, characters to connect with, and sometimes even the comfort of knowing that I’m not the only person who has ever felt the way I do.

And I think that’s why the bookish community matters so much to me. Behind every review, recommendation, ARC, post, and person screaming about their latest fictional obsession is a real person with a life we know very little about.

So please check on your people. Check on the friend who’s gone quiet. Check on the mutual who suddenly disappeared. Check on the person who is always there for everyone else.

Don’t just ask, “Are you okay?”
Ask again.

You never know what someone is carrying.

And if you’re the person struggling right now, please remember: your story isn’t over. There are still books you haven’t read, places you haven’t been, people you haven’t met, and chapters you haven’t lived.

Please stay. 🤍
Your story deserves another chapter. 📖🤍 by @escape_withstephanie

BOOK REVIEW
This book focused much more on mental health than the first two. I’d even say the main couple felt more like a subplot, while the real story was about learning to face your monsters and choose yourself.
This book showed just how much depression can take away your ability to do even the most mundane tasks. It captured the shocking reality of how you can slowly lose yourself while constantly trying to give more and more to someone who isn’t pouring anything back into you.
Evie was so real and raw that, at times, it felt like I was staring into a mirror or reading about a younger version of myself. Her mother pissed me off so much, honestly. The fact that she chose to believe him hurt so badly, especially because I never expected him to actually be him. Like, what do you mean the man they idolized while growing up was doing that to her?
I loved how supportive Matteo was. He would choose Evie over and over again, and even though he preferred to observe, he made an effort to fill the silence when Evie lost her spark. He pushed her when she needed it, knew when not to push, and always took things at her pace.
You could really see the difference when Evie finally had someone who genuinely wanted to pour back into her. Depression doesn’t just disappear; there are good days and bad days. But she had a village, and that village helped her through the bad days.
I think books like this can be incredibly influential, especially for younger girls. They show how staying in an isolating relationship can slowly drain you and make you lose yourself. You need a village. You need people who pour back into you.
And most importantly, depression isn’t something to be ashamed of, and it doesn’t mean there is something wrong with you. Sometimes choosing yourself means accepting that you need help, allowing people to love you through the hard days, and learning that you don’t have to fight your monsters alone.

August, you were a little bit of everything 🎀✨

A new bookshelf (my first one ever 🥹), a skincare analysis that somehow turned into a whole new skincare lineup, comfort shows, book mail, and finally giving my TBR the attention she’s been demanding.

I took a little break from ARCs this month and actually read from my own TBR, and honestly… these books were SO good💜

Also, in true Stephanie fashion, I built my new bookshelf around 3AM because apparently furniture assembly is a nighttime activity. 💀

And as for my latest obsession… Celsius. Let’s just say I’m a low-iron girlie and leave it at that. 😭

Overall, August was full of little things I’ve been loving lately, and I’m kinda lowkey obsessed with how this month turned out. 🎀

Q/AWhat was your favorite part of August?
