some views of my installation, Ryggvirvelskog, on the forest edge by the fjord for Rotvoll Kunstfest ✨️

each one of these takes somewhere around 20-30 hours - from cutting down the tree or collecting fallen wood, stripping the bark off, mapping out the plans for carving, carving, sanding, and finishing.

this first iteration features seven sculptures and after a lengthy much needed break, i'll be back in the studio to make more. in the meantime, if anyone has recommendations for where to get a good hand massage, hmu ☠️ taken in Rotvoll by @esomalflor

Rosanna Warren is a Professor (Emerita) at the University of Chicago. She is the author of seven books of poetry: the new Hindsight, and most recently So Forth (2020) and Ghost in a Red Hat (2011). A former Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets and a Berlin Fellow, she has received awards from the Academy of American Poets, The American Academy of Arts &; Letters, the Lila Wallace Foundation, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the New England Poetry Club, among others.

David Weiss has published six collections of poetry, most recently Little Mirror (Lynx House) and No Tomorrow (Tiger Bark Press), three novels, The Mensch, Cry Baby and Do Us Part and four crime novels in the Ditch Witch series. His book of essays on poetry, And Living Things Too, has just come out from Tiger Bark Press.

A point walks into a line, a body draws lines in space, a line of thread pierces through cloth, a dot etches glass, a wave of light reverberates into sound. From neurological brain waves flowing from arm to form, these artists use line to create multi-dimensional conceptual drawings; on paper and on walls, in lace and in glass, in performance, and through invisible lines of light and sound. Together their works draw a resonant immersive world. taken in P S 122 Gallery by @esomalflor

Together, Apart has been finished up for almost a couple of weeks but i'm just now getting around to sharing some more images from the show 💀

"No Man is an Island" is an installation made from sawdust, wood chips, and weathered alpine wood, designed to transform over the course of the exhibition. Over the month of June, the rush of air from the gallery door opening and the movements of passing viewers slowly shifted the distinct shape of the silhouette.

Named after John Donne’s poem, the installation's wood dust evokes shifting sand. The gradual erosion of the human silhouette serves as a reminder of our own impermanence and eventual return to the earth.

Special thanks to Esther & Marius at Tynset AIR (@rambu_tynset) and the sawmill in Tylldalen for generously gifting me with a big ol bag of sawdust 🪵 taken in Fotografiens Hus by @esomalflor

Thanks to Fotografiens Hus for introducing us and hosting this talk between Kajsa Dahlberg and I. We talked about our personal connections to nature, letting materials be collaborators, our lineages in queer feminist art history, the camera as a tool, and so much more.

Together, Apart is on view for one more week!

If you're nowhere near Oslo and would like to see the show, message or email me and I'll send you a direct link to the documentation. 💚

What happens when identity, ecology, and transformation become part of the same living system?

As part of Artistic Mapping 2026, @areatemporal presents a closer look at the practice of @esomalflor, whose work unfolds through hybrid organisms, mutable landscapes, and material processes that challenge fixed ideas of body, nature, and belonging. This editorial essay explores transformation not as an exception, but as a fundamental condition of existence.

"For Whom the Bell Tolls" pieces together three distinct stages of erosion, mapping the transition from mountain summits and industrial rock drilling down to the stones worn away beneath waves and our footsteps.

The form is inspired by the traditional Norwegian klokkestreng, a decorative embroidery originally designed as a bell pull to summon servants. By recontextualizing this history, I am considering our relationship to land: how we call upon the earth and its resources to be in constant service to us and our lives.

Through photography, this sequence captures the structural transition from the monumental scale of a mountain down to a small beach pebble. It tells a story of degradation, weathering, and time.

The title is borrowed from John Donne's poem of the same name, which explores the interconnectedness of humanity and our shared fate.

Materials: digital reactive print on 100% silk, carved and sanded fir, pigmented wax and hardware.

This work can be seen in person at Fotografiens Hus in Oslo! Together, Apart is open now through June 28th. taken in Fotografiens Hus by @esomalflor

Artist Talk: eso malflor & Kajsa Dahlberg

A conversation between eso malflor and Kajsa Dahlberg on photography, care, ecology and more-than-human relations.

In connection to the exhibition “Together, Apart”, Fotografiens Hus is pleased to invite you to a conversation between exhibitor eso malflor and artist Kajsa Dahlberg.

Sunday 14 June, 1 PM. The conversation will be in English.

The event is free.

Starting from their respective artistic practices, the conversation will explore photography and image in relation to how we think about the body, nature, care, belonging, and our relationship to the more-than-human world.

In her recent work, Kajsa Dahlberg has been investigating what role visual media has played in distinguishing between the human and nonhuman, a distinction that has often led to an understanding of film and photography as an optical extension of human vision. By practically and theoretically re-examining this notion, she explores how different mediums of moving images bears witness to material interdependencies and co-productions have the potential to converge human and non-human perspectives.

At Fotografiens Hus, eso malflor presents KROPP/BODY/CUERPO, a long-term photographic project created in Nevelsfjord, Northern Norway, where their paternal family has roots dating back to the nineteenth century. Inspired by Ana Mendieta’s Siluetas, malflor creates human-shaped forms from natural materials gathered in the surrounding landscape and returns year after year to photograph their gradual transformation and dissolution.

The project emerged alongside the artist’s experience of losing their grandmother and became a reflection on grief, impermanence, and the cycles of decay and renewal that shape both human lives and the natural world. Through site-specific interventions and photography, KROPP/BODY/CUERPO highlights the interdependence between people and the environments they inhabit, inviting viewers to consider the body as inseparable from its ecological surroundings.

The event is supported by Norske Fagfotografers Fond and Fritt Ord.

28.05.–28.06.2026

Åpning: torsdag 28. mai kl. 18.00–20.00

Fotografiens Hus presenterer Together, Apart.
