Esperanza's Faith & Capacity Initiatives recently welcomed 29 pastors, chaplains, and lay leaders representing 15 churches across Philadelphia and New Jersey for an inspiring training focused on moving from purpose to practice.

Led by Rev. Rubén Ortiz, Vice President of Faith & Capacity Initiatives, with coordination by Min. Ivelisse Vázquez-Figueroa, Project Director, the session guided participants through the importance of developing clear vision and mission statements that reflect the unique needs of the communities they serve.

Beyond the training, the gathering fostered meaningful networking and created a safe, supportive space where faith leaders could learn from one another, build lasting connections, and strengthen their shared commitment to serving their congregations and communities with excellence. by @esperanza_us

This month, Esperanza's Housing & Economic Development Division (EHED) hosted its largest food distribution of the year, providing essential groceries to more than 100 families. With the support of NAI and C2L-PHL summer interns, volunteers packed and distributed food to those in need. The event welcomed a growing number of first-time participants, reflecting the success of community outreach efforts led by block captains and local partners. As many families continue to face increasing barriers to accessing basic necessities, Esperanza remains committed to providing trusted resources and support through its monthly food distributions, held on the second Thursday of each month. by @esperanza_us

Esperanza: A Home for the Colombian Community in Philadelphia

Last month, Esperanza proudly welcomed the Colombian community for several important events celebrating civic engagement, culture, and community leadership. More than 2,400 Colombian citizens gathered at Esperanza to cast their votes in Colombia’s presidential elections, reaffirming Esperanza’s role as a trusted gathering place for the community.

Esperanza also hosted María del Pilar Cruz Silva, Consul General of Colombia, who met with community leaders and residents from Pennsylvania and New Jersey to listen to their concerns, provide information on issues affecting Colombians abroad, and celebrate Colombian culture through music and artistic performances. Reverend Luis Cortés Jr., Founder and CEO of Esperanza, welcomed attendees and reaffirmed Esperanza’s ongoing commitment to supporting the Colombian community.

The event also provided an opportunity for community leaders to formally present a Petition for the Establishment of a Colombian Consulate General in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, an initiative they have been advocating for to better serve the growing Colombian population across the state.

La SanSe se vivió en Philadelphia 🇵🇷

The photos are in, and we’re still celebrating the incredible energy of La SanSe in Philly! Esperanza Arts Center proudly presented the world premiere of this immersive cultural experience, created by our 2026–2027 Artist in Residence, Tony Mendez, in collaboration with @losbomberoscalle Bomberos and the @americancomposersforum

Inspired by Puerto Rico’s iconic Fiestas de la Calle San Sebastián, the production transformed Teatro Esperanza, the Gran Salón, and the Plaza into a vibrant celebration featuring live Bomba and Plena music, dance, visual art, storytelling, delicious food, and a lively comparsa procession that brought the spirit of Old San Juan to Philadelphia.

This extraordinary production was made possible through our partnership with the American Composers Forum and the generous support of the @cityofphiladelphia , the @williampennfoundation , @thepresserfdn , and @musicalfundsociety
