SYNOPSIS: Based on true events, “Tenzing” chronicles the little-known story of Tenzing Norgay, a gifted Himalayan climber who, alongside New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary, was the first to summit Mount Everest. Encouraged by his wife Dawa, Tenzing finds an ally in expedition secretary Jill Henderson. Together, they persuade Colonel John Hunt that Tenzing belongs on the British climbing team, rather than merely serving it. Where Western climbers see “Everest” as something to be conquered, Tenzing reveres “Chomolungma” as the sacred mother goddess. What follows is an ascent defined as much by the tensions between backgrounds, classes and competing ambitions as by the perils of the mountain itself. But high above the world, empire, rank and aspiration fall away, leaving two outsiders bound by mutual respect and trust — and for Tenzing, the fulfillment of both a lifelong dream and a spiritual calling.

Secret Base Cinema is excited to announce our Horror-thon 2026 tickets are now available!

Join Secret Base as we return to the historic @esquiretheatre for another wildly weird lineup for the Halloween season!

🎃Friday, October 23rd starting at 5pm. Tickets are on sale now through Esquire website or the SBC bio link.

👻Movie goers may purchase individual feature tickets or purchase the entire lineup to save $2 per ticket ($8 total saved).

This year’s line up will feature an eclectic lineup with a little bit of something for all types horror fans. Also, there will be a brief gap mid-marathon to allow for folks to get food & drinks.

“The Whip and The Body” (1963) - Kicking off this year’s horror-thon, this 1963 italian horror thriller was directed by legend Mario Bava. After a wealthy count (Christopher Lee) commits suicide over a forbidden relationship his ghost is believed to be responsible for a series of dark events. Originally banned by european censors over sadomasochistic themes.

“Ozone” (1993)- a shot on video crime-thriller/horror with enough practical effects to make your eyes ooze. Audience members follow along with a detective, recently stabbed by a needle filled with the dangerous street drug ozone, as he battle back the ghoul-like ozone addicts in search of his partner.

“The Relic” (1997)- director Peter Hyam’s adaptation of the novel by Douglas Preston features an excellent performance by actor Tom Sizemore as a detective trying to chase down the culprit of a series of bizarre murders in a Museum on the evening of a large gala event.

“From Beyond” (1986)- Stuart Gordon’s cult body horror took inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft’s short story of the same name and was adapted by Gordon himself and Brian Yuzna. Highly entertaining performances from Ken Foree, Jeffrey Combs, and Barbara Crampton add to the schlock charm of this truly insane story of scientists dragging demons into this realm by stimulating the human pineal gland using a strange device called the Resonator.
