Grab your boots and let’s shuffle, walk, walk, toward abortion access for all!

The Rodeo for Reproductive Rights returns to our Brooklyn home @maydayspace for one more night on their beautiful hardwood floor. We are raising funds for @abortioncaretn as they battle off a sweeping legal challenge to their necessary work helping Tennesseans access abortion. ACT and its sibling org @mountainaccessbrigade are true reproductive justice practitioners, bringing an intersectional and liberatory approach to all they do in the home state of country music.

This Rodeo will feature:
🐎 an introductory country swing lesson by Stephanie of @horseplaydance
🐺 original beginner-friendly line dance choreography by Amy Wilson @howlingwolfdance
👯‍♀️ an expansive dance floor where both partner and line dancers are welcome
💃🏼 a VERY special performance by the one and only @pridesalsa, presented with support from @bkartscouncil
💡 abortion positivity, community, and fun
💝 more cute surprises TBA!

Thank you to @esther.pk for donating this cute poster design!

Tickets are $20 in advance only — check the link in bio to grab yours today, or make a donation toward the cause. We encourage you to give generously as you are able, knowing that every dollar will be put straight to work defending abortion access in Tennessee. The need is great, but our solidarity is greater. We can’t wait to see you there! by @esther.pk

I’ve always been a lover of art! I’ve begun to draw daily from observation, experimenting with color and mixed media. Between May and September, I’ve filled two sketchbooks! This drawing practice is both a commitment to create, and a form of self-care.

@esther.pk is a brilliant writer and friend! It has been a privilege to watch her work develop over the years. Sometimes in my mind, we are back in the basement of our college library, poring over sociology and gender studies papers.

In late March, Esther and I came together to imagine Delight, a print project featuring both of our art. Once a month, delivered to your doorstep, a piece of writing by Esther and a piece of art by me.

We hope you will enjoy, or should I say — delight 🌟! by @esther.pk

My dear friend @meredithanh and I are starting Delight, an offline creative project.

Once a month, we will send you a beautiful envelope containing art by Maya & and some writing by me.

After finishing my MFA, I’m looking to fall back in love with low stakes writing that cannot help me climb the ladder of literary prestige. I’m inspired by the poet 문보영 @opendooropenit who has been sending readers letters & diary entries in the mail since 2018, and the YouTube show 우리 사이엔 편지가 있다 (Between Us There are Letters) where writer 이슬아 @sullalee helps guests write wedding speeches and letters to their loved ones.

Maya and I have been friends since our first week of college. We’ve known many versions of each other, and this past year, I have loved seeing how she has reincorporated art into her day-to-day, despite her full time job in higher education. When she visited me this March, we spent the weekend sketching and writing—at a loud brewery in LIC, an empty wine bar in the East Village, and sitting in front of the Temple of Dendur at the Met.

Maya and I are starting Delight because we share a love for the precious things in our life that are laborious or “inefficient,” and the ability print media has to ‘slow [us] down to the pace of real life.’

We are charging just $7 for now—largely to cover the cost of materials and shipping—in the spirit of sharing what we’re working on with you, rather than wringing our passion into a hustle. If you are interested in the first edition of Delight, please fill out the form in my bio! by @esther.pk

One week since the move to Brooklyn, almost two since turning in my MFA thesis. Mourning the end of this era & I think I’ll miss living walking distance to Hungarian most: the elderly men playing Go, nurses on break, feeling an affinity for everyone working on their manuscripts on screens & on loose-leaf, even the chaos of the bathroom walls. by @esther.pk

Head to ballot.socialists.nyc to double check your pollsite & whether a DSA candidate is running in your corner of the city.

Next Tuesday 🌟 Come out for this congressional fundraiser for Darializa Avila Chevalier & Claire Valdez. Line instruction by @emmaj620 & myself, partner lesson by @horseplaydance & @simonestpierre, @rosemiles22 on DJ duties! TIX IN BIO ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

DSA & line have been fundamental to my pursuit of *the* question of the moment: how do we seek the balance between rage & joy? This event is a manifestation of that—I am organizing & teaching alongside lovely friends and collaborators with whom I’ve spent the past year sweating, laughing, and fighting.

So, donate, dance (it’s so low stakes! watch the last slide to see me mess up!) & feel juiced in our collective vision for a better world—where the working class & marginalized lead dignified, joyous lives. Action beats apathy! by @esther.pk

I enjoyed this exercise, so—things in December that made me want to write:

1 - Face sans makeup. Repressing the desire to filter, edit; some days are successful, many aren’t
2 - The mutual enthusiasm (even amidst below freezing temps!) at line; missing it sorely
3 - Grandville’s “Venus at the Opera” (1844), part of FIT’s Dress, Dreams, and Desire exhibit
4 - Making time to sustain friendship; a cold but warm day during M’s 36 hour visit
5 - Bureaucratic technologies of capitalism
6 - Lucy Dacus’ sublime “I Don’t Think So Honey”
7 - Excerpts from Edward Lee’s love letter to Korea / 적나라하지만 불쌍하진 않은 갈망이 보였던 이균 셰프의 서신
8 - Helping Mom prepare to play organ for a Christmas Eve service, her first time in more than 15 years / 진짜 대형 이벤트! 책임감있게 준비한 우리 김 권사님이 자랑스러웠다
9 - Dubai stereotypes. Many are reductive, dubious; some of them are true
10 - Jordan Kisner reminds me vulnerability is risky but essential in Thin Places (2020)
11 - 정말 멋있는 어른 후덕죽 셰프
12 - Immersing in Korean literature, like awakening a whole other self / 원소윤의 훌륭한 오토픽션, 꽤 낙천적인 아이 (2025)

Bonus from 01/01 - Lucy’s rendition of “Bread and Roses” at the inauguration; this is verse 3. Sarah Goldstone on omnichord by @esther.pk

Inspired by @ramaduwaji, things I saw in November that made me want to write:

1 - The flowers I received at my birthday party wilting gorgeously
2 - Second bathtub scene in Sorry, Baby (2025)
3 - This part of Zohran Mamdani’s victory speech—it felt as though he was speaking directly to me
4 - Completely unedited image of the fluorescent sky above the Union Square Greenmarket, shared with friends one day post election
5 - Perhaps my most favorite film photo I’ve ever taken; Raleigh, NC
6 - Maya’s red fingernail lovably obfuscating Pablo
7 - Marios’ dedication to picking up/dropping off everyone at the airport
8 - This searing paragraph from Jessica Winter’s “What Did Men Do to Deserve This?” in the New Yorker
9 - Maggie Rogers at Pioneer Works for the ACLU fundraiser
10 - This thorough paper. Also, Rachel Feinstein’s research using divorce petitions to study white women’s roles in upholding slavery
11 - The well-oiled machine that is Hungarian Pastry Shop
12 - “West End Girl” by Lily Allen
13 - Leisurely cooking Thanksgiving dinner for myself
14 - This video of someone reading “Having “Having a Coke With You” With You” by Mark Leidner to their friends (sped up to fit under 1 min.)
15 - 화사의 청룡영화상 “Good Goodbye” 무대; 폭발적인 반응과 그 악플들까지도 by @esther.pk

Plate’s been full, heart fuller. What Maggie meant when she said my world’s a honeyed shade of blue.

P.S., friends, loves, let’s please dance/dinner/call/hug after November 4th! In the meantime, vote, talk to your neighbors :) #z4nyc by @esther.pk
